Once in Royal David's City

Author: Cecil Frances Alexander Hymnal: Voices United #62 (1996) Meter: 8.7.8.7.7.7 Topics: Epiphany 6 Year A Lyrics: 1 Once in royal David's city stood a lowly cattle-shed, where a mother laid her baby in a manger for his bed. Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ her little child. 2 He came down to earth from heaven, who, with God is over all, and his shelter was a stable, and his cradle was a stall. There among the poor and lowly lived on earth our Saviour holy. 3 For he is our lifelong pattern; daily, when on earth he grew; he was tempted, scorned, rejected, tears and smiles like us he knew. Thus he feels for all our sadness, and he shares in all our gladness. 4 And our eyes at last shall see him, through his own redeeming love; for that child who seemed so helpless is our Lord in heaven above; and he leads his children on to the place where he is gone. Now Thank We All Our God

Author: Martin Rinckart; Catherine Winkworth; Flossette du Pasquier Hymnal: Voices United #236 (1996) Meter: 6.7.6.7.6.6.6.6 Topics: Epiphany 6 Year A First Line: Now thank we all our God (Louons le Créateur) Lyrics: 1 Now thank we all our God, with heart, and hands, and voices, who wondrous things has done, in whom this world rejoices; who from our mothers' arms has blessed us on our way with countless gifts of love, and still is ours today. 2 O may this bounteous God through all our life be near us, with ever-joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us, and keep us strong in grace, and guide us when perplexed, and free us from all ills in this world and the next. 3 All praise and thanks to God for all that has been given, the Son, and Spirit blest who dwell in highest heaven, the one eternal God, whom heaven and earth adore; for thus it was, is now, and shall be, evermore. Ask Me What Great Thing I Know

Author: Benjamin H. Kennedy; Johann C. Schwedler Hymnal: Voices United #338 (1996) Meter: 7.7.7.7.7 Topics: Epiphany 6 Year A Lyrics: 1 Ask me what great thing I know that delights and stirs me so, what the high reward I win, whose the name I glory in: Jesus Christ, the crucified. 2 Who defeats my fiercest foes? Who consoles my saddest woes? Who revives my fainting heart, healing all that grief imparts? Jesus Christ, the crucified. 3 Who is life in life to me? Who the death of death will be? Who holds all my days secure, in God's heart where love is sure? Jesus Christ, the crucified. 4 This is that great thing I know; this delights and stirs me so: faith in Christ who died to save, Christ who triumphed o'er the grave, Jesus Christ, the crucified.
