Author: Edward White Benson, 1829-1896 Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 18 hymnals Topics: Holy Days and Various Occasions Rogation Days Lyrics: 1. O Jesus, crowned with all renown, since thou the earth hast trod, thou reignest and by thee come down henceforth the gifts of God. Thine is the health and thine the wealth that in our halls abound, and thine the beauty and the joy with which the years are crowned. 2. Lord, in their change, let frost and heat, and winds and dews be given; all fostering power, all influence sweet, breathe from the bounteous heaven. Attemper fair with gentle air the sunshine and the rain, that kindly earth with timely birth may yield her fruits again: 3. that we may feed the poor aright, and, gathering round thy throne, here, in the holy angel's sight, repay thee of thine own: That we may praise thee all our days, and with the Father's Name, and with the Holy Spirit's gifts, the Savior's love proclaim. The great forerunner of the morn

Author: The Venerable Bede, 673-735; John Mason Neale, 1818-1866 Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 21 hymnals Topics: Holy Days and Various Occasions The Nativity of Saint John the Baptist (June 24) Lyrics: 1. The great forerunner of the morn, the herald of the Word, is born; and faithful hearts shall never fail with thanks and praise his light to hail. 2. With heavenly message Gabriel came, that John should be that herald's name, and with prophetic utterance told his actions great and manifold. 3. John, still unborn, yet gave aright his witness to the coming light; and Christ, the Sun of all the earth, fulfilled that witness at his birth. 4. His mighty deeds exalt his fame to greater than a prophet's name; of woman born shall never be a greater prophet than was he. 5. To God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit, Three in One, praise, honor, might, and glory be from age to age eternally. Used With Tune: THE TRUTH FROM ABOVE

To Thee, O Lord, our hearts we raise

Author: W. C. Dix Appears in 112 hymnals Topics: Various Occasions Thanksgiving Day Lyrics: 1 To Thee, O Lord, our hearts we raise In hymns of adoration, To Thee bring sacrifice of praise With shouts of exultation: Bright robes of gold the fields adorn, The hills with joy are ringing, The valleys stand so thick with corn That even they are singing. 2 And now, on this our festal day, Thy bounteous hand confessing, Upon Thine altar, Lord, we lay The first-fruits of Thy blessing: By Thee the souls of men are fed With gifts of grace supernal; Thou who dost give us earthly bread, Give us the bread eternal. 3 We bear the burden of the day, And often toil seems dreary; But labor ends with sunset ray, And rest is for the weary; May we, the angel-reaping o'er, Stand at the last accepted, Christ's golden sheaves for evermore, To garners bright elected. 4 O blessed is that land of God, Where saints abide for ever; Where golden fields spread far and broad, Where flows the crystal river: The strains of all its holy throng With ours to-day are blending; Thrice blessed is that harvest-song Which never hath an ending. Used With Tune: [To Thee, O Lord, our hearts we raise]
