Armstrong Topics: Heaven and Homeland Author of "Oh, to be over Yonder!" in Northfield Hymnal Armstrong, Florence Catherine, daughter of William Armstrong, M.D., of Collooney, Co. Sligo, Ireland, born March 18, 1843. Her well-known hymn:— 0 to be over yonder [Longing for Heaven] was written in 1862, and published without her consent in the British Herald, Feb. 1865, p. 24, and dated "Jan., 1865." It soon attained an extended circulation, and was given in several collections. In 1875 Miss Armstrong acknowledged the authorship in her work, The King in His Beauty and Other Poems. -- John Julian, Dictionary of Hymnology (1907)

Topics: Heaven and Homeland Author of "The Land Beyond the Sea!" in Northfield Hymnal In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries.

Annie Herbert

1844 - 1932 Topics: Heaven and Homeland Author of "When the Mists have Rolled Away" in Northfield Hymnal Annie Elvira Hubbart (Herbert) Barker USA 1844-1932. Born in Leon, NY, she received some education at Randolph Academy in her home county. She later taught there herself. Gospel songs were becoming popular in evangelistic services in the 19th century. She became a successful public recitalist, studying at the Buffalo School of Oratory and with Anna Randall Diehl of New York and Professor Leonard of Boston. After marrying in 1879, she moved to Montana with her husband, from that area. Along with other pioneers. She claimed those years as the best of her life. In 1888 they moved again to San Rafael, CA, he being an invalid at that time. She lived there the rest of her life. John Perry
