In Silence My Soul Is Waiting

Author: Michael Saward, 1932- Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.7 Appears in 1 hymnal Topics: Waiting upon God Lyrics: 1 In silence my soul is waiting, is waiting for God alone; deliv'rance from him is coming, my rescuer, fort, and rock. In silence my soul is waiting; secure, I shall not be moved. 2 You set on a man and you beat him, the pack of you knock him down; as a tottering wall he staggers, sub-sides like a sagging fence. In silence my soul is waiting; secure, I shall not be moved. 3 You plot for his undermining, you slander him with your lies; you love, with faint praise, to damn him; sweet tongued, you've a curse-filled heart. In silence my soul is waiting; secure, I shall not be moved. 4 Be silent, my soul, in waiting, in waiting for God alone; assurance from him is coming, my rescuer, fort, and rock. Be silent, my soul in waiting; secure, I shall not be moved. 5 There's safety in God, and honor, my refuge, my rock, my strength, so hide in our God, you people, and pour out your hearts to him. Be silent, my soul in waiting; secure, I shall not be moved. 6 Just puffs of the wind, the people, great men are illusions, all; as breath in the air, they're measured, then weightless they fade away. Be silent, my soul in waiting; secure, I shall not be moved. 7 Don't trust, then, in cruel extortion, don't plunder, defraud, and steal; don't set your heart on possessions, especially if they increase. Be silent, my soul in waiting; secure, I shall not be moved. 8 Uniquely, our God has spoken, of two things I've heard him speak; he's the source of pow'r and mercy; to men he repays their deeds. Be silent, my soul in waiting; secure, I shall not be moved. Scripture: Psalm 62 Used With Tune: SILENCE

The Righteous and the Evil-Doer

Appears in 3 hymnals Topics: Waiting upon God First Line: The wicked, watching for their prey Lyrics: 1 The wicked, watching for their prey, Desire the righteous man to slay, But God is on his side; He will not leave him in their hands, Nor count him guilty when he stands In judgment to be tried. 2 Wait on the Lord and keep His way; He will exalt thee, nor delay To give the land to thee; And when the wicked are cut off, The wicked who against thee scoff, Their judgment thou shalt see. 3 The wicked in great pow'r are seen, Like spreading tree with foliage green That grows in native ground. I looked again, they were no more; I sought the men so proud before, But they could not be found. 4 Mark thou the upright day by day, Behold the perfect in his way; His journey ends in peace. Destroyed at once shall rebels be; Cut off from all posterity, Their very name shall cease. 5 Salvation is from God, alone, Whom as their covert saints have known When by sore troubles tried; The Lord Who helped in troubles past Will save them to the very last, For they in Him confide. Scripture: Psalm 37 Used With Tune: RAPTURE

Grace and Gratitude

Appears in 6 hymnals Topics: Waiting upon God First Line: I waited for the Lord Most High Lyrics: 1 I waited for the Lord Most High, And He inclined to hear my cry; He took me from destruction's pit And from the miry clay; Upon a rock He set my feet, And steadfast made my way. 2 A new and joyful song of praise He taught my thankful heart to raise; And many, seeing me restored, Shall fear the Lord and trust; And blest are they that trust the Lord, The humble and the just. 3 O Lord my God, how manifold Thy wondrous works which I behold, And all Thy loving, gracious thought Thou hast bestowed on man; To count Thy mercies I have sought, But boundless is their span. 4 Not sacrifice delights the Lord, But he who hears and keeps His word; Thou gavest me to hear Thy will, Thy law is in my heart; I come the Scripture to fulfill, Glad tidings to impart. Scripture: Psalm 40 Used With Tune: DUNSTAN

Day by Day and with Each Passing Moment

Author: Carolina Sandell Berg; A. L. Skoog Meter: Irregular Appears in 57 hymnals Topics: Waiting upon God Lyrics: 1 Day by day and with each passing moment, strength I find to meet my trials here; trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment, I’ve no cause for worry or for fear. He whose heart is kind beyond all measure gives unto each day what he deems best– lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure, mingling toil with peace and rest. 2 Every day, the Lord himself is near me with a special mercy for each hour; all my cares he fain would bear, and cheer me, he whose name is Counselor and Pow'r. The protection of his child and treasure is a charge that on himself he laid: “As your days, your strength shall be in measure,” this the pledge to me he made. 3 Help me then in every tribulation so to trust your promises, O Lord, that I lose not faith’s sweet consolation offered me within your holy Word. Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting, e'er to take, as from a father’s hand, one by one, the days, the moments fleeting, till I reach the promised land. Scripture: Deuteronomy 33:25 Used With Tune: BLOT EN DAG
