Ira’s father was song writer Elisha Hoffman. His middle name was his mother’s maiden name. At age nine, he is said to have written the music for his father’s song "The Little Pilgrim;" as an adult, he was a composer, arranger, and music editor. b. 1861 Hymnal Number: 146 Composer of "[Geh aus im Namen deines Herrn]" in Pilgerklänge Born: April 30, 1861, Greenwich Township (now Gibbstown), New Jersey. Fithian was music director for the public schools in Camden, New Jersey. He and his wife Julia were both listed in the 1910 and 1920 census, but his wife appears alone in the 1930 census.
