Hymnal: A Collection of Hymns and Prayers, for Public and Private Worship #81 (1845) Meter: 8.6.8.6 First Line: Behold, where in a mortal form Lyrics: 1 Behold, where in a mortal form
Appears each grace divine!
The virtues, all in Jesus met,
With mildest radiance shine.
2 To spread the rays of heav'nly light,
To give the mourner joy;
To preach glad tidings to the poor,
Was his divine employ.
3 Lowly in heart, to all his friends
A friend and servant found,
He wash'd their feet, he wip'd their tears,
And heal'd each bleeding wound.
4 'Midst keen reproach and cruel scorn,
Patient and meek he stood.
His foes ungrateful, sought his life;
He labour'd for their good.
5 To God he left his righteous cause;
And still his task pursued;
While humble pray'r and holy faith
His fainting strength renew'd.
6 In the last hours of deep distress,
Before his Father's throne,
With soul resign'd he bow'd and said,
"Thy will, not mine, be done!"
7 Be Christ our pattern and our guide!
His image may we bear!
O may we tread his holy steps,
His joy and glory share! Topics: Christ His Mission and Works; Christ His Life and Example Languages: English
