When Lawless People Thrive

Author: Christopher Idle Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 2 hymnals Topics: Ten Commandments 5th Commandment (You shall not murder) Lyrics: 1 When lawless people thrive and wrong suppresses right, remember they will fade away and wither overnight. Commit your life to God, and trust the LORD to make the justice of your righteous cause shine clear for his name's sake. 2 Be still before the LORD; in patience learn to wait and never fret if crime succeeds and some grow rich and great. For jealous discontent tends only to destroy; the meek who look to God their LORD a kingdom shall enjoy. 3 The godless borrow much and cannot then pay back; the righteous give, and give again, are blessed, and have no lack. The saints whose lives are true can turn away from wrong; God's Word is hidden in their heart, God's wisdom guides their tongue. 4 I've seen a boasting thief grow like a weed apace; but when I passed that way again I looked, but found no trace. My steps are from the LORD who helps my feet to stand. I stumble but I do not fall; my God shall hold my hand. 5 Salvation is from God in times of blatant wrong, and all who seek his shelter find a refuge safe and strong. So fully trust the LORD; shun evil, follow right: God gives you all your heart's desire when he is your delight. Scripture: Psalm 37 Used With Tune: DINBYCH

Get Right with God

Author: G. H. S. Appears in 8 hymnals Topics: Command First Line: In darkness I lingered 'mid doubt and despair Refrain First Line: Get right with God! Lyrics: 1 In darkness I lingered 'mid doubt and despair, Sin's bondage long held me a captive to care; But Jesus delivered my soul from its chains, His precious blood cleans'd me from sin's guilty stains. Chorus: Get right with God! His pardon is free, Get right with God, He's waiting for thee; Our Jesus is calling: "Oh, come unto me," Take Him, O sinner, and get right with God. 2 The world and its pleasures did tempt me to stray, I saw not the danger that lurk'd on the way; The toils clos'd around me, I knew no release, But Jesus has found me and giv'n me His peace. [Chorus] 3 The pathway to Calv'ry is toilsome and hard, Yet tread it, O faint one, and find thy reward; There lay down thy burden, and wash in the stream That flows like a fountain thy soul to redeem. [Chorus] 4 Repent while He calls thee, while yet it is day, Take with thee His gift of free pardon away; Take Christ for thy Saviour, Redeemer, and Friend, His love will sustain thee secure to the end. [Chorus] Used With Tune: [In darkness I lingered 'mid doubt and despair]

Not unto Us, O Lord of Heaven

Meter: 8.8.8.8.8.8 Appears in 13 hymnals Topics: Ten Commandments 2nd Commandment (do not make graven emages) Lyrics: 1 Not unto us, O Lord of heaven, but unto you be glory given. In love and truth you do fulfill the counsels of your sovereign will; though nations fail your power to own, yet you still reign, and you alone. 2 The idol gods of heathen lands are but the work of human hands; they cannot see, they cannot speak, their ears are deaf, their hands are weak; like them shall be all those who hold to gods of silver and of gold. 3 So let us trust in God alone, the Lord, whose grace and power are known; and our complete allegiance yield to God who is our help and shield. Join, heaven and earth, in sweet accord; sing "Hallelujah, praise the Lord!" Scripture: Psalm 115 Used With Tune: VATER UNSER Text Sources: Psalter, 1912, alt.
