God’s Son came to bless us

Author: Johann Roh, c. 1480-1547; Catherine Winkworth, 1827-78 Meter: 6.6.6.6.6.6 Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Luke 12:8 Lyrics: 1 God’s Son came to bless us, from sin to release us, as a servant lowly, yet our God most holy, bore the cross to save us, hope and freedom gave us. 2 Still Christ comes within us, still his voice would win us from the sins that hurt us, would to truth convert us; from our folly spares us, and his own declares us. 3 So, as you have known him, be prepared to own him; do not spurn him coldly, but still trust him boldly; for our Lord receives us, heals us, and forgives us. 4 Christ, all grace possessing, comes to us in blessing; to his Supper leads us, with himself he feeds us, love and mercy showing, peace on us bestowing. 5 Come then, O Lord Jesus, from our bondage free us, in your love enfold us, in true faith uphold us. Let us here confess you, till in heaven we bless you. How Glad We Are to Be Alive

Author: Mary Nelson Keithahn Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Luke 12:48 Lyrics: 1 How glad we are to be alive to sing your praise today, and thank you, God, for gifts of grace we never can repay: our lives begun in parents’ love and nurtured in their care, creative minds inclined to learn, and hearts to dream and dare. 2 By grace we came to study here where doors were opened wide by wise and caring teachers who became both friend and guide. We learned to think, reflect, and act, to differ and concur, explored new worlds within, without, discovered who we were. 3 Your gifts of grace have blessed us all! How great a debt we owe to you, our God, for granting us a chance to learn and grow, and, as we’ve gone forth in the world, providing us the means, and giving us the courage to pursue our lifelong dreams. 4 Could joyful songs our gratitude and praise alone declare, from dawn to dusk we’d harmonize on alleluia airs! Yet from your prophets we have learned you ask for more than song; you call for justice, peace, and love where there is hurt and wrong. 5 Most merciful and gracious God, we promise you today we’ll try to give back what we owe by walking in your way, by being kind to those in need, and helping those who fall, by seeking justice for the poor, and peace for one and all. Lyrics: 1 Are we waiting for the coming of the Lord, my brother? Are we walking in the Spirit? do we love each other? In the union of affection are we bound together? Are we trading with the talents that He gave? Refrain: Lo, He comes! the day is nigh! Look ye for Him ev'ry eye! Coming with the clouds of glory, All the earth shall see Him! Hallelujah! for the coming draweth nigh! 2 Let us trim our lamps, my brother, and abide His coming, Neither let the blessed Master find us in sin roaming, Whether coming at the midnight or at bright day-dawning, Let's be ready for the coming of the King. [Refrain] 3 We'll rejoice that He is coming, tho' we now see trouble; For the sorrows of the present there's rejoicing double; To repay our ev'ry sorrow Christ our Lord is able; Then be patient till the coming of the King. [Refrain] Topics: Second Coming Used With Tune: [Are we waiting for the coming of the Lord]
