How Clear Is Our Vocation, Lord

Author: Fred Pratt Green Meter: 8.6.8.8.6.6 Appears in 19 hymnals Topics: Christian Year All Saints Lyrics: 1 How clear is our vocation, Lord, when once we heed your call to live according to your word and daily learn, refreshed, restored, that you are Lord of all and will not let us fall. 2 But if, forgetful, we should find your yoke is hard to bear; if worldly pressures fray the mind and love itself cannot unwind its tangled skein of care: our inward life repair. 3 We marvel how your saints became in hindrances more sure: whose joyful virtues put to shame the casual way we wear your name, and by our faults obscure your power to cleanse and cure. 4 In what you give us, Lord, to do, together or alone, in old routines or ventures new, may we not cease to look to you: the cross you hung upon, all you endeavored, done. Scripture: Isaiah 6:8 Used With Tune: REPTON

O, King of saints, we give Thee praise and glory

Author: M. A. Thomson Meter: 11.10.11.10 Appears in 8 hymnals Topics: All Saints Lyrics: 1 O King of saints, we give Thee praise and glory For the bright cloud of witnesses unseen, Whose names shine forth like stars, in sacred story, Guiding our steps to realms of light serene; 2 And for Thy hidden saints, our praise adoring, Fount of all sanctity, to Thee we yield, Who in Thy treasure-house on high, art storing Jewels who lustre was, on earth, concealed. 3 Thine arm sustained them all in conflict mortal With sin, the world, and all the powers of hell; Thy hand hath oped for all, the shining portal To realms where peace and joy forever dwell. 4 There they are throned and white-robed elders, casting Before the King of kings their crowns of gold; And there are crowns and mansions everlasting, And palms and harps for multitudes untold. 5 Though, in Thy service, we too oft have slumbered, Like the ten virgins, foolish ones and wise; Yet with Thy saints, may we at last be numbered, And at Thy call with burning lamps arise. Amen. Used With Tune: STRENGTH AND STAY

I cannot tell why he, whom angels worship

Author: William Young Fullerton (1857-1932) Appears in 34 hymnals Topics: Children and All-Age Worship; Church year Passiontide; Fear; Future hope; Jesus coming again; Jesus Life and Ministry; Other Saints and Festivals St Stephen; Other Saints and Festivals Joseph of Nazareth; Proper 22 Year C; The First Sunday of Christmas Year A; The Third Sunday of Easter Year B Lyrics: 1 I cannot tell why he, whom angels worship, should set his love upon the sons of men, or why, as Shepherd, he should seek the wanderers, to bring them back, they know not how or when. But this I know, that he was born of Mary when Bethl'em's manger was his only home, and that he lived at Nazareth and laboured, and so the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is come. 2 I cannot tell how silently he suffered, as with his peace he graced this place of tears, or how his heart upon the cross was broken, the crown of pain to three and thirty years. But this I know, he heals the broken-hearted and stays our sin and calms our lurking fear and lifts the burden from the heavy laden; for still the Saviour, Saviour of the world is here. 3 I cannot tell how he will win the nations, how he will claim his earthly heritage, how satisfy the needs and aspirations of east and west, of sinner and of sage. But this I know, all flesh shall see his glory, and he shall reap the harvest he has sown, and some glad day his sun will shine in splendour when he the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is known. 4 I cannot tell how all the lands shall worship, when at his bidding every storm is stilled, or who can say how great the jubilation when every heart with love and joy is filled. But this I know, the skies will thrill with rapture, and myriad myriad human voices sing, and earth to heav'n, and heav'n to earth, will answer, 'at last the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is King!' Scripture: Luke 2 Used With Tune: LONDONDERRY AIR

Servant of God, Well Done!

Author: Charles Wesley Appears in 80 hymnals Topics: All Saints Lyrics: 1 Servant of God, well done! Thy glorious warfare's past; the battle's fought, the race is won, and thou art crowned at last; Of all thy heart's desire triumphantly possessed; lodged by the ministerial choir in thy Redeemer's breast. 2 In condescending love, thy ceaseless prayer He heard; and bade thee suddenly remove to thy complete reward. Ready to bring the peace, thy beauteous feet were shod, when mercy signed thy soul's release, ad caught thee up to God. 3 With saints enthroned on high, thou dost thy Lord proclaim, and still to God salvation cry, salvation to the Lamb! O happy, happy soul! In ecstasies of praise, long as eternal ages roll, thou seest thy Savior's face. 4 Redeemed from earth and pain, Ah! when shall we ascend and all in Jesus' presence reign with our translated friend? Come, Lord, and quickly come! And when in Thee complete, receive Thy longing servants home, to triumph at Thy feet! Scripture: Psalm 107:1-9 Used With Tune: DINBYCH
