A Fox Has a Den

Author: Mary Nelson Keithahn Meter: 5.5.5.5 D Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Matthew 25:40 Lyrics: 1 A fox has a den, a bird has a nest, yet Jesus the Christ had no place to rest, save for a manger in dim, dusty room, an old, rugged cross, a newly-made tomb. 2 Now risen, Christ walks the streets of our town, befriending the poor wherever they’re found, sharing the trials of those without homes, and bearing their pain in feeling alone. 3 How can we leave you, Christ, there with the poor, to share in the life that they must endure? Here in our hearts there is room! Be our guest! Christ said, “I can’t come without all the rest. 4 “When I was hungry, you saw I was fed; with no place to sleep, you gave me a bed. You were good neighbors when I had no home, now welcome the least, my loved ones, my own.” 5 Compassionate Christ, forgive us, we pray, that we have ignored the poor in this way. Give us your vision to see in each face a neighbor in need of our love and grace. Used With Tune: CARTER'S TUNE

Hope for a Child

Author: Mary Nelson Keithahn Meter: 10.10.10.10 Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Matthew 25:35-36 First Line: Hope for a child is a home that's secure Lyrics: 1 Hope, for a child, is a home that’s secure, safety for sleeping, fresh water that’s pure, food on the table, and clean clothes to wear, love without limits from people who care. 2 Yet in our world many children today live without hope, cast aside, tossed away, homeless and hungry, abused, in ill health, shrouded by apathy, hidden from wealth. 3 Who in our midst will show love to the lost? Who will support them, whatever the cost? Who has unlimited power to bring hope to these children, and make their hearts sing? 4 Blessed by our birth, God, with more than is fair, Gratefully, gladly we promise to share all your good gifts with these children in need, following Jesus in word and in deed. Lord, May We See by Faith and Grace

Author: Mary Nelson Keithahn Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Matthew 25:40 Lyrics: 1 Lord, may we see by faith and grace your countenance in each sad face of those who stand and wait outside, encircled by your arms spread wide. 2 They cling to hope in their despair, and long for life more just and fair, a home that’s safe and bread to eat, warm clothes to wear, and water sweet; 3 And here, within this sacred space, a table where they have a place, a font of blessing, friends who care with helpful hands and heart-felt prayer. 4 Reveal yourself to them, we pray, in what we do and what we say, that as we share your love and grace, we may reflect your holy face.
