Lord, teach us how to pray aright

Author: James Montgomery (1771-1854) Hymnal: Church Hymnary (4th ed.) #545 (2005) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Scripture: Matthew 18:19-20 Lyrics: 1 Lord, teach us how to pray aright with reverence and with fear; though fallen sinners in thy sight, we may, we must, draw near. 2 Our spirits fail through lack of prayer: oh, grant us power to pray; and, when to meet thee we prepare, Lord, meet us by the way. 3 God of all grace, we bring to thee a broken contrite heart; give what thine eye delights to see-- truth in the inward part; 4 Trust in the only sacrifice that can for sin atone, to cast our hopes, to fix our eyes, on Christ, on Christ alone; 5 Patience to watch and wait and weep, though mercy long delay; and courage our faint souls to keep, with faith in thee alway. 6 Give these, and then thy will be done: thus, strengthened with all might, we, through thy Spirit and thy Son, shall pray and pray aright. Kindred in Christ, for his dear sake

Author: Newton Hymnal: The Voice of Praise #511 (1873) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Scripture: Matthew 18:20 Lyrics: 1 Kindred in Christ, for his dear sake, A hearty welcome here receive; May we together now partake The joys which only he can give. 2 May he, by those kind care we meet, Send his good Spirit from above, Make our communications sweet, And cause our hearts to burn with love. 3 Forgotten be each worldly theme, When Christians see each other thus; We only wish to speak of him Who lived, and died, and reigns for us. 4 We'll talk of all he did and said, And suffered for us here below; The path he marked for us to tread, And what he's doing for us now. 5 Thus, as the moments pass away, We'll love, and wonder, and adore; And hasten on the glorious day When we shall meet to part no more. Christ's Presence

Author: Charles Wesley Hymnal: Laudes Domini #506 (1888) Scripture: Matthew 18:20 First Line: Jesus, we look to thee Lyrics: 1 Jesus, we look to thee, Thy promised presence claim; Thou in the midst of us shalt be, Assembled in thy name. 2 Not in the name of pride Or selfishness we meet; From nature's paths we turn aside, And worldly thoughts forget. 3 We meet the grace to take, Which thou hast freely given; We meet on earth for thy dear sake, That we may meet in heaven. 4 Present we know thou art, But, oh, thyself reveal! Now, Lord, let every bounding heart Thy mighty comfort feel. 5 Oh, may thy quickening voice The death of sin remove; And bid our inmost souls rejoice, In hope of perfect love.
