O Christ the same through all our story's pages

Author: Timothy Dudley-Smith, b. 1926 Hymnal: The New English Hymnal #258 (1986) Meter: 11.10.11.10 D Lyrics: 1 O Christ the same through all our story's pages, Our loves and hopes, our failures and our fears; Eternal Lord, the King of all the ages, Unchanging still, amid the passing years: O living Word, the source of all creation, Who spread the skies, and set the stars ablaze, O Christ the same, who wrought man's whole salvation, We bring our thanks for all our yesterdays. 2 O Christ the same, the friend of sinners, sharing Our inmost thoughts, the secrets none can hide, Still as of old upon your body bearing The marks of love, in triumph glorified: O Son of Man, who stooped for us from heaven, O Prince of life, in all your saving power, O Christ the same, to whom our hearts are given, We bring our thanks for this the present hour. 3 O Christ the same, secure within whose keeping Our lives and loves, our days and years remain, Our work and rest, our waking and our sleeping, Our calm and storm, our pleasure and our pain: O Lord of love, for all our joys and sorrows, For all our hopes, when earth shall fade and flee, O Christ the same, beyond our brief tomorrows, We bring our thanks for all that is to be. O Blessed Home, That Cheerfully Receiveth

Author: Charles William Schaeffer; Karl Johann Philipp Spitta Hymnal: American Lutheran Hymnal #262 (1930) Meter: 11.10.11.10 D Lyrics: 1 O blessed home, that cheerfully receiveth Thy visits, Jesus Christ, the soul's true Friend, That, far beyond all other guests, believeth It must to Thee its warmest cheer extend; Where ev'ry heart to Thee is fondly turning, Where ev'ry eye for Thee with pleasure speaks, Where all to know Thy will are truly yearning, And ev'ry one to do it promptly seeks. 2 O blessed home, where man and wife, united In Thy true love, have both one heart and mind, Where both to Thy salvation are invited, And in Thy doctrine both contentment find; Where both, to Thee, in truth, forever cleaving In joy, in grief, make Thee their only stay, And fondly hope in Thee to be believing, Both in the good and in the evil day. 3 O blessed home, where little children tender Are laid upon Thy heart with hands of prayer, Thou Friend of children, Who wilt freely render To them more than a mother's loving care, Where round Thy feet they gather, to Thee clinging, And hear Thy loving voice most willingly, And in their songs, Thy hearty praises ringing, Rejoice in Thee, O blessed Lord, in Thee. Ever Content With The Ways Of My Father

Author: Paul E. Kretzmann Hymnal: American Lutheran Hymnal #287 (1930) Meter: 11.10.11.10 D Lyrics: 1 Ever content with the ways of my Father: He knoweth best on what path I should go; Ever content in the blessed assurance That I make progress, no matter how show; Yielding my hands to His fatherly guidance, Since He on pathways of safety doth lead, Since He in kindness, when faint grow my footsteps, Ever my soul in His mercy doth feed. 2 Ever content with the burden He giveth: He knoweth best what His children can bear; Ever content, though the load seem oppressive, Though on all sides there be worry and care. This is my comfort, this eases my burden, This makes me cheerful to bear ev'ry cross, That is my stead Jesus bore all transgressions, That for my sake He endured untold loss. 3 Ever content--tho' it sometimes appeareth That He in anger hath hidden His face; Ever content, for His merciful promise Bids me believe His assurance of grace. I am a child of the heavenly Father; Why, then, should ever my heart fret and fear? I shall be with Him, in bliss and in glory, When my Redeemer once more will appear. Lord of the church, we pray for our renewing

Author: Timothy Dudley-Smith, 1926- Hymnal: CPWI Hymnal #327 (2010) Meter: 11.10.11.10 D Lyrics: 1 Lord of the church, we pray for our renewing: Christ over all, our undivided aim. Fire of the Spirit, burn for our enduing, wind of the Spirit, fan the living flame! We turn to Christ amid our fear and failing, the will that lacks the courage to be free, the weary labours, all but unavailing, to bring us nearer what a church should be. 2 Lord of the church, we seek a Father's blessing, a true repentance and a faith restored, a swift obedience and a new possessing, filled with the Holy Spirit of the Lord! We turn to Christ from all our restless striving, unnumbered voices with a single prayer: the living water for our souls' reviving, in Christ to live, and love and serve and care. 3 Lord of the church, we long for our uniting, true to one calling, by one vision stirred; one cross proclaiming and one creed reciting, one in the truth of Jesus and his word. So lead us on; till toil and trouble ended, one church triumphant one new song shall sing, to praise his glory, risen and ascended, Christ over all, the everlasting king!
