b. 1827 Author of "Let All the World Rejoice" in Rejoice in the Lord Hunt, John, D.D., was born at Bridgend, Perth, Jan. 21, 1827, and educated at the University of St. Andrews (D.D. 1878). In 1855 he was ordained to the curacy of Deptford, Sunderland. He held several curacies to 1878, when he became vicar of Oxford, near Sevenoaks. He was for some time on the staff of the Contemporary Review. He has published Select Poems, 1852, being translations from Goethe, Schiller, and other German poets. Also The Spiritual Songs of Martin Luther, 1853. These Songs are noted in this Dictionary under their first lines in German. Very few of them have come into common use. This volume also contains hymns founded on the German of Zinzendorf and others. The versions, however, are very free, and, at Dr. Hunt's suggestion, are not noted in detail in this Dictionary. [Rev. John Anketell
1835 - 1905 Person Name: John H. Anketell Author of "Rejoice, The Savior Reigns!" in The Cyber Hymnal Anketell, John, M.A., was born at New Haven, Connecticut, U.S.A., March 8, 1835, and educated at Yale College, and the University of- Halle-Wittenberg, Prussian Saxony. He was ordained deacon of the American Episcopalian Church in 1859, and priest in 1860. He founded (Stanza John's (American) Episcopal Church in Dresden in 1869. Subsequently he became Professor of Hebrew and Greek Exegesis in the Seabury Divinity School. Mr. Anketell published in 1889 Gospel and Epistle Hymns for the Christian Year, N.Y. He has also translated about 120 hymns from the German, Greek, Latin, Hebrew, French, Spanish, Danish, Italian, and Syriac, which were published in the Church Review, N.Y., 1876 and later, and in other periodicals. A few of those from the Latin are noted in Duffield's Latin Hymn-Writers, &c, 1889. Mr. Anketell's original hymns number about 150. Both these and his translations are worthy of notice. He died March 9, 1905.

David Mowbray
b. 1938 Author of "Take heart and praise our God" in Complete Mission Praise David Mowbray (b. 1938) was born in Wallington, Surrey, England. He attended Dulwich College, Fitzwilliam, Cambridge where he read English. He gained an MA at Trinity in Bristol and a BD at London (External). Ordained in the Church of England, he was a curate at St. Giles in Northampton and at St. Mary's in Walford. Appointed Vicar of Broxborne, Herts in 1970 in 1984, he became Vicar of All Saints, Hertfordshire. In 1991 he became Vicar of St. Matthew's Darley Abbey, Derby, where he serves to this day. He has been writing hymns since 1977 and most of his texts are represented by Jubilate Hymns. Three of his hymn texts have been included in Hope's new hymnal Worship & Rejoice (2001).
