Jesus, where'er thy people meet

Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 515 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Jesus, where'er thy people meet, There they behold thy mercy-seat; Where'er they seek thee thou art found, And ev'ry place is hallow'd ground. 2 For thou, within no walls confin'd, Inhabitest the humble mind: Such ever bring thee where they come, And going take thee to their home. 3 Dear Shepherd of thy chosen few! Thy former mercies here renew; Here, to our waiting hearts proclaim The sweetness of thy saving name. 4 Here may we prove the might of pray'r, To strengthen faith and sweeten care; To teach our faint desires to rise, And bring all heaven before our eyes. 5 Behold, at thy commanding word, We stretch the curtain and the cord;* Come thou and fill this humble space, And bless us with a large increase. 6 Lord, we are few but thou art near; Nor short thine arm, nor deaf thine ear; Oh, rend the heavens, come quickly down, And make a thousand hearts thine own.

Keep silence all created things

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 202 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Keep silence all created things, And wait your Maker's rod: My soul stands trembling, while she sings The honors of her God. 2 Life, death, and hell, and worlds unknown, Hang on his firm decree: He sits on no precarious throne, Nor borrows leave TO BE. 3 Chain'd to his throne a volume lies, With all the fates of men, With every angel's form and size, Drawn by th' eternal pen. 4 His providence unfolds the book, And makes his counsels shine; Each opening leaf, and every stroke, Fulfils some deep design. 5 Here, he exalts neglected worms To sceptres, and a crown; Anon, the following page he turns, And treads the monarch down. 6 Not Gabriel asks the reason why, Nor God the reason gives; Nor dares the fav'rite angel pry Between the folded leaves. 7 My God, I ne'er would long to see My fate with curious eyes, What gloomy lines are writ for me, Or what bright scenes shall rise. 8 In the fair book of life and grace May I but find my name, Recorded in some humble place Beneath my Lord the Lamb. Scripture: Daniel 4:34-35
