Questions and doubts be heard no more

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: The Psalms and Hymns of Dr. Watts #115 (1835) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Rejoicing in God Lyrics: Questions and doubts be heard no more, Let Christ and joy be all our theme; His Spirit seals his gospel sure, To every soul that trusts in him. Jesus, thy witness speaks within; The mercy which thy words reveal Refines the heart from sense and sin, And stamps its own celestial seal. 'Tis God's inimitable hand That molds and forms the heart anew; Blasphemers can no more withstand, But bow, and own thy doctrine true. The guilty wretch that trusts thy blood Finds peace and pardon at the cross; The sinful soul, averse to God, Believes and loves his Maker's laws. Learning and wit may cease their strife, When miracles with glory shine; The voice that calls the dead to life Must be almighty and divine. Scripture: 1 John 5:10 Languages: English

Psalm 18 Part 1

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #Ps.41 (1806) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Rejoicing in God First Line: We love thee, Lord, and we adore Lyrics: We love thee, Lord, and we adore; Now is thine arm revealed: Thou art our strength, our heav'nly tower, Our bulwark, and our shield. We fly to our eternal Rock, And find a sure defence; His holy name our lips invoke, And draw salvation thence. When God, our Leader, shines in arms, What mortal heart can bear The thunder of his loud alarms, The lightning of his spear? He rides upon the winged wind, And angels in array In millions wait to know his mind, And swift as flames obey. He speaks, and at his fierce rebuke Whole armies are dismayed; His voice, his frown, his angry look, Strikes all their courage dead. He forms our generals for the field, With all their dreadful skill; Gives them his awful sword to wield, And makes their hearts of steel. [He arms our captains to the fight, (Though there his name's forgot; He girded Cyrus with his might, But Cyrus knew him not.) Oft has the Lord whole nations blessed For his own church's sake; The powers that give his people rest, Shall of his care partake.] Scripture: Psalm 18 Languages: English

Psalm 18 Part 2

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #Ps.42 (1806) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Rejoicing in God First Line: To thine almighty arm we owe Lyrics: To thine almighty arm we owe The triumphs of the day; Thy terrors, Lord, confound the foe, And melt their strength away. 'Tis by thine aid our troops prevail, And break united powers, Or burn their boasted fleets, or scale The proudest of their towers. How have we chased them through the field, And trod them to the ground, While thy salvation was our shield, But they no shelter found! In vain to idol saints they cry, And perish in their blood Where is a rock so great, so high, So powerful as our God? The Rock of Isr'el ever lives, His name be ever blest; 'Tis his own arm the vict'ry gives, And gives his people rest. On kings that reign as David did, He pours his blessings down; Secures their honors to their seed, And well supports the crown. Scripture: Psalm 18 Languages: English

Happy the heart where graces reign

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: The Psalms and Hymns of Dr. Watts #310 (1835) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Rejoicing in God Lyrics: Happy the heart where graces reign, Where love inspires the breast; Love is the brightest of the train, And strengthens all the rest. Knowledge, alas! 'tis all in vain, And all in vain our fear; Our stubborn sins will fight and reign, If love be absent there. 'Tis love that makes our cheerful feet In swift obedience move; The devils know and tremble too, But Satan cannot love. This is the grace that lives and sings When faith and hope shall cease; 'Tis this shall strike our joyful strings In the sweet, realms of bliss. Before we quite forsake our clay, Or leave this dark abode, The wings of love bear us away To see our smiling God. Scripture: Psalm 18:15-18 Languages: English

Now shall my inward joys arise

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: The Psalms and Hymns of Dr. Watts #495 (1835) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Rejoicing in God Lyrics: Now shall my inward joys arise, And burst into a song; Almighty love inspires my heart, And pleasure tunes my tongue. God on his thirsty Zion hill Some mercy drops has thrown, And solemn oaths have bound his love To shower salvation down. Why do we then indulge our fears, Suspicions, and complaints? Is he a God, and shall his grace Grow weary of his saints? Can a kind woman e'er forget The infant of her womb? And 'mongst a thousand tender thoughts Her suckling have no room? "Yet," saith the Lord, "should nature change, And mothers monsters prove, Zion still dwells upon the heart Of everlasting love. "Deep on the palms of both my hands I have engraved her name; My hands shall raise her ruined walls, And build her broken frame?" Scripture: Isaiah 49:13 Languages: English

Before thy people I confess

Hymnal: Trinity Hymnal #565 (1961) Meter: 8.8.8.6.8.6 Topics: Rejoicing in God Lyrics: 1 Before thy people I confess The wonders of thy righteousness; Thou knowest, Lord, that I have made Thy great salvation known, Thy truth and faithfulness displayed, Thy loving-kindness shown. 2 Withhold not thou thy grace from me, O Lord, thy mercy let me see, To me thy lovin-gkindness show, Thy truth be still my stay; Let them preserve me where I go, And keep me ev'ry day. 3 Let all who seek to see thy face Be glad and joyful in thy grace; Let those who thy salvation love Forevermore proclaim: O praise the Lord who dwells above, And magnify his Name. 4 Although I poor and needy be, The Lord in love takes thought for me; Thou art my help in time of need, My Saviour, Lord, art thou; Then, O my God, I pray, I plead: Stay not, but save me now. Amen. Scripture: Psalm 40:9-11 Languages: English Tune Title: DUNSTAN
