The Earth, with All That Dwell Therein

Meter: 8.6.8.6.6 Appears in 16 hymnals Topics: Church Year All Saints' Day; Year B, All Saints' Day, November 1 Lyrics: 1 The earth, with all that dwell therein, with all its wealth untold, belongs to God who founded it upon the seas of old, upon the seas of old. 2 Oh, who shall stand before the Lord on Zion's holy hill? The clean of hand, the pure of heart, the just who do God's will, the just who do God's will. 3 Lo, such are they that seek the Lord, and blest by God they live; to them the Lord's pure righteous ways the God of grace will give, the God of grace will give. 4 O everlasting doors, give way; lift up your head, O gates! For now, behold, to enter in, the King of glory waits, the King of glory waits. 5 Who is this glorious King that comes to sit upon the throne? All hail the Lord of Hosts who is our glorious King alone, our glorious King alone. Scripture: Psalm 24 Used With Tune: LOBT GOTT, IHR CHRISTEN Text Sources: Psalter, 1912, alt.

I cannot tell why he, whom angels worship

Author: William Young Fullerton (1857-1932) Appears in 33 hymnals Topics: Children and All-Age Worship; Church year Passiontide; Fear; Future hope; Jesus coming again; Jesus Life and Ministry; Other Saints and Festivals St Stephen; Other Saints and Festivals Joseph of Nazareth; Proper 22 Year C; The First Sunday of Christmas Year A; The Third Sunday of Easter Year B Lyrics: 1 I cannot tell why he, whom angels worship, should set his love upon the sons of men, or why, as Shepherd, he should seek the wanderers, to bring them back, they know not how or when. But this I know, that he was born of Mary when Bethl'em's manger was his only home, and that he lived at Nazareth and laboured, and so the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is come. 2 I cannot tell how silently he suffered, as with his peace he graced this place of tears, or how his heart upon the cross was broken, the crown of pain to three and thirty years. But this I know, he heals the broken-hearted and stays our sin and calms our lurking fear and lifts the burden from the heavy laden; for still the Saviour, Saviour of the world is here. 3 I cannot tell how he will win the nations, how he will claim his earthly heritage, how satisfy the needs and aspirations of east and west, of sinner and of sage. But this I know, all flesh shall see his glory, and he shall reap the harvest he has sown, and some glad day his sun will shine in splendour when he the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is known. 4 I cannot tell how all the lands shall worship, when at his bidding every storm is stilled, or who can say how great the jubilation when every heart with love and joy is filled. But this I know, the skies will thrill with rapture, and myriad myriad human voices sing, and earth to heav'n, and heav'n to earth, will answer, 'at last the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is King!' Scripture: Luke 2 Used With Tune: LONDONDERRY AIR
