Frank von Christierson

1900 - 1996 Hymnal Number: 414 Author of "As Those of Old Their Firstfruits Brought" in The Presbyterian Hymnal Frank von Christierson (1900-1996) was born near Helsinki, Finland. He attended San Jose (California) High School, Stanford University (BA, Psychology, 1923), and San Francisco Theological Seminary (BD 1929). In 1983 he was awarded the citation of distinguished alumnus, and became a Fellow of The Hymn Society. He has served as youth director at First Presbyterian Church, San Luis Obispo, and pastor at Calvary Presbyterian Church, Citrus Heights, California. He has published a hymnal collection entitled Make a Joyful Noise (1987) and is represented in many hymnals. Three of his hymn texts have been included in the new Hope hymnal Worship & Rejoice (2001). http://www.hopepublishing.com/html ========================= After serving for thirty-seven years as a minister of the United Presbyterian Church in Berkeley, North Hollywood and Sacramento, California, Rev. Frank con Christierson has retired to serve as "Interim minister" in the Central Area of the Synod of California. He has been moderator of San Francisco Presbytery and of Los Angeles Presbytery, and has just completed three years as chairman of radio and television for the Sacramento Area Council of Churches. Born in Finland, he was brought to America as a boy of four. He is a graduate of Stanford University and of San Francisco Theological Seminary. Charles P. Price

1920 - 1999 Hymnal Number: 470 Author (st. 3) of "O Day of Radiant Gladness" in The Presbyterian Hymnal Price was born in Pittsburgh in 1920 and educated at Harvard University, Virgina Theological Seminary, and Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He studied piano with Elizabeth and Ferguson Webster and was ordained as a deacon and priest in the Episcopal Church, Diocese of Pittsburgh. He served churches in Pennsylvania and New York City before becoming a professor at Virginia Theological Seminary (1956-1963). From 1963 to 1972 he was preacher to the university and Plummer Professor of Christian Morals at Harvard University before returning to Virginia Seminary as professor of systematic theology (1972-1989). Price was a member of the Standing Liturgical Commission (1967-1985) and the Committee on Texts for The Hymnal 1982 (1976-1982), as well as deputy to the General Convention (1976-1985) and chaplain to the House of Deputies (1979-1985) for the Episcopal Church. His books include Introducing the Proposed Book of Common Prayer (1976) and, with Louis Weil, Liturgy for Living (1979). Marjorie Jillson

1931 - 2010 Hymnal Number: 225 Author of "Praise the Lord!" in The Presbyterian Hymnal Marjorie Jillson was born in 1931 in Detroit and graduated from the College of Wooster, Ohio (B.A. in Religion, 1953). She was employed in various secretarial positions by the U.S. Government, Washington, D.C. She returned to Detroit and worked as a dental secretary (1973-1980) until she became ill. A member of Grosse Point Memorial Presbyterian Church, Jillson wrote the texts for Three Simple Melodies (1972) and Five Hymns (1973). The music for both collections was composed by Zimmermann. --The Presbyterian Hymnal Companion, 1993
