Psalm 65

Hymnal: Foundations Psalter #65 (2023) Scripture: Psalm 65 First Line: Praise waits for thee in Sion, Lord: Lyrics: 1 Praise waits for thee in Zion, Lord: to thee vows paid shall be. 2 O thou that hearer art of prayer, all flesh shall come to thee. 3 Iniquities, I must confess, prevail against me do: But as for our transgrëssions, them purge away shalt thou. 4 Blessed is the man whom thou dost choose, and mak'st approach to thee, That he within thy courts, O Lord, may still a dweller be: We surely shall be satisfied with thy abundant grace, And with the goodness of thy house, ev'n of thy holy place. 5 O God of our salvätion, thou, in thy righteousness, By fearful works unto our prayers thine answer dost express: Therefore the ends of all the earth, and those afar that be Upon the sea, their confidence, O Lord, will place in thee. 6 Who, being girt with pow'r, sets fast by his great strength the hills. 7 Who noise of seas, noise of their waves, and people's tumult, stills. 8 Those in the utmost parts that dwell are at thy signs afraid: Th' outgoings of the morn and ev'n by thee are joyful made. 9 The earth thou visit'st, wat'ring it; thou mak'st it rich to grow With God's full flood; thou corn prepar'st, when thou provid'st it so. 10 Her rigs thou wat'rest plenteously, her furrows settlest: With show'rs thou dost her mollify, her spring by thee is blessed. 11 So thou the year most lib'rally dost with thy goodness crown; And all thy paths abundantly on us drop fatness down. 12 They drop upon the pastures wide, that do in deserts lie; The little hills on ev'ry side rejoice right pleasantly. 13 With flocks the pastures clothèd be, the vales with corn are clad; And now they shout and sing to thee, for thou hast made them glad. Praise Waits for Thee in Zion, Lord

Hymnal: Rejoice in the Lord #106 (1985) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Scripture: Psalm 65 Lyrics: 1 Praise waits for thee in Zion, Lord: to thee vows paid shall be. O thou that hearer art of prayer all flesh shall come to thee. 2 To thee must all come penitent who would in thee find peace: guilt weighs us down, but thou from sin dost contrite hearts release. 3 Bless'd are all those whom thou dost choose and callest to thy side, that they within thy courts may dwell, and close to thee abide. 4 We surely shall be satisfied with thy abundant grace, and with the goodness of thy house, e'en of thy holy place. 5 O God of our salvation sure, thou answerest when we pray, and dost thy perfect righteousness in deeds of awe display. 6 In all the ends of earth, and far in islands of the sea, our fallen race has learned to place its confidence in thee. Psalm 65 Part 2

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #Ps.137 (1806) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Scripture: Psalm 65:5-13 First Line: The God of our salvation hears Lyrics: The God of our salvation hears The groans of Zion mixed with tears; Yet when he comes with kind designs, Through all the way his terror shines. On him the race of man depends, Far as the earth's remotest ends, Where the Creator's name is known By nature's feeble light alone. Sailors, that travel o'er the flood, Address their frighted souls to God, When tempests rage and billows roar At dreadful distance from the shore. He bids the noisy tempests cease; He calms the raging crowd to peace, When a tumultuous nation raves Wild as the winds, and loud as waves. Whole kingdoms, shaken by the storm, He settles in a peaceful form; Mountains, established by his hand, Firm on their old foundations stand. Behold his ensigns sweep the sky, New comets blaze, and lightnings fly; The heathen lands, with swift surprise, From the bright horrors turn their eyes. At his command the morning ray Smiles in the east, and leads the day; He guides the sun's declining wheels Over the tops of western hills. Seasons and times obey his voice; The ev'ning and the morn rejoice To see the earth made soft with showers, Laden with fruit, and dressed in flowers. 'Tis from his wat'ry stores on high He gives the thirsty ground supply; He walks upon the clouds, and thence Doth his enriching drops dispense. The desert grows a fruitful field, Abundant food the valleys yield; The valleys shout with cheerful voice, And neighb'ring hills repeat their joys. The pastures smile in green array; There lambs and larger cattle play; The larger cattle and the lamb Each in his language speaks thy name. Thy works pronounce thy power divine; O'er every field thy glories shine; Through every month thy gifts appear; Great God, thy goodness crowns the year!
