Let all creation bless the Lord

Author: Carl P. Daw, Jr., 1944- Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Appears in 9 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Let all creation bless the Lord, till heaven with praise is ringing. Sun, moon and stars, peal out a chord, stir up the angels’ singing. Sing, wind and rain! Sing, snow and sleet! Make music, day, night, cold and heat: exalt the God who made you. 2 All living things upon the earth, green fertile hills and mountains, sing to the God who gave you birth; be joyful, springs and fountains. Lithe water-life, bright airborne birds, wild roving beasts, tame flocks and herds: exalt the God who made you. 3 O men and women everywhere, lift up a hymn of glory; all you who know God’s steadfast care, tell out salvation’s story. No tongue be silent; sing your part, you humble souls and meek of heart: exalt the God who made you. Topics: Creation; God Creator and Ruler; Metrical Psalms; Music / Singing / Song; Praise Scripture: Psalm 148 Used With Tune: LUTHER'S HYMN Text Sources: Orig. a paraphrase of the canticle "Bendeicite, omnia opera Domini", Apocryphal book The Prayer of Azariah and the Song of the Three Jews 35-65

Author: Cyriacus Schneegass; August Crull Meter: 8.7.87.8.8.7 Appears in 11 hymnals First Line: Lord, our Father, thanks to Thee Lyrics: 1. Lord, our Father, thanks to Thee In this new year we render, For every evil had to flee Before Thee, our Defender. Our life was nourished, we were fed With rich supplies of daily bread, And peace reigned in our borders. 2. Lord Jesus Christ, our thanks to Thee In this new year we render; Thy reign hath kept Thy people free, Hath shown Thy mercies tender. Thou hast redeemed us with Thy blood, Thou art our Joy, our only Good, In life and death our Savior. 3. Lord Holy Ghost, our thanks to Thee In this new year we render, For Thou hast led our eyes to see Thy truth in all its splendor And thus enkindled from above Within our hearts true faith and love And other Christian virtues. 4. Our faithful God, we cry to Thee: Still bless us with Thy favor, Blot out all our iniquity, And hide our sins forever. Grant us a happy, good new year And, when the hour of death draws near, A peaceful, blest departure. Lord, thou hast been our dwelling-place

Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: 1 Lord, thou hast been our dwelling-place, a rest in tribulations, to us, thine own redeemed race, through all our generations. Thou, ere the mountains sprang to birth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth, art God from everlasting. 2 Thou turnest man again to clay; by thee that doom was spoken; as with a torrent borne away, gone like a sleep when broken. A thousand years are in the sight but as a watch amid the night, or yesterday departed. 3 At morn we flourish like the grass, when green and fresh it groweth, which, withered ere the evening pass, the sweeping sickle moweth. Thus do thy chastisements consume our blasted hopes, our early bloom, we fade at thy displeasure. 4 Lo! thou hast set before thine eyes all our misdeeds and errors; our secret sins from darkness rise to thy confronting terrors. At thy rebuke, cut short by death, our life is like the transient breath, that told a bygone story. 5 Our days are three-score years and ten; ten more man's strength may borrow; but if the span be lengthened then that strength is toil and sorrow; for soon arrives the closing hour: but who discern thy fearful power, proportioned to thine anger? 6 Lord, teach us so to count our days, that we may prize them duly, and set our heart on wisdom's ways, that we may praise thee truly. Return, thy servants' griefs behold, and with thy mercy, as of old, O, satisfy us early! 7 restore us comfort for our fears, joy for our long affliction; our children give through changing years increasing benediction. Thy glorious beauty, Lord, reveal; and with thy prospering favour seal thy servants and their labours. Scripture: Psalm 90 Used With Tune: LUTHER'S HYMN
