1812 - 1888 Person Name: William Maccall, 1812-1888 Topics: All Saints Day Translator of "In Heaven Above, in Heaven Above" in Ambassador Hymnal Maccall, William, son of William Maccall, was born at Largs, Ayrshire, Scotland, Feb. 25, 1812. In 1868, he published several translations from the Danish as Hymns of Denmark by Gilbert Tait. He has also published Hymns of Sweden rendered into English. He died Nov. 19, 1888.

Maccall earned a Master of Arts degree from the University of Glasgow, then studied theology in Geneva, Switzerland. Ordained a Unitarian minister, he pastored in Bolton, Lancashire (1837-40) and Crediton, Devonshire (1841-46), then moved to London. His works include:
