This is the holy day when Jesus, our Redeemer, completes salvation's way. The forty days are over, and clouds shine high and bright as Christ, the overcomer, is lifted from our sight. 2 Lift up your hearts, believers! Ye gates, lift up your heads! Though minds be full of wonder, though souls be filled with dread. The Spirit has been promised, and, though we are alone, we wait until the moment when fire and wind are known. 3 Lift up your hearts believers! And do not be downcast, for Jesus, our Redeemer, receives the crown at last. The thorns of crucifixion are changed to stars of light, and Christ, the Lord of glory, is named as God's delight. 4 Lift up your hearts, believers! Mighty God Who Called Creation

Author: Carl P. Daw, Jr., b. 1944 Hymnal: One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism #458 (2018) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Scripture: Acts 2 Lyrics: 1 Mighty God who called creation From the unformed womb of space, Newborn worlds of gleaming glory, Fresh with hope and ripe with grace: Speak again with pow'r and promise When the storms of fear increase; To our chaos and confusion Let Your light and truth bring peace. 2 As we worship, may Your Spirit Breathe through us the pow'r of prayer, Words of life for daily living, Strength to do and faith to dare. Come, enflame us, Holy Spirit, Like the Church at Pentecost; Help us bear the light of blessing To the least, the last, the lost. 3 Rooted in the love of Jesus, Nourished by His flesh and blood, May we prove a fruitful vineyard Joined in mutual servanthood. Work through us, O risen Savior, To reap peace from fields of strife; Bring our barren wastes to blossom; Lead us out of death to life. 4 Keep us faithful, joyful, loving, Filled with hope through grief and pain, Knowing that the One who made us Has redeemed and will sustain: Triune God, of boundless glory, Yet in human form made known, Raise us up to be a people Called by love to be Your own. God's Holy Spirit Came

Author: Mary Jackson Cathey, b. 1926; Michael Denham, b. 1955 Hymnal: Christian Worship #479 (2021) Meter: 6.6.8.4 D Scripture: Acts 2:1-11 Lyrics: 1 God's Holy Spirit came with rushing wind and fire, Christ's presence here to comfort, bless, and to inspire. The Spirit thus began God's holy work on earth at Pentecost, a gift that gave the Church its birth. 2 God sent the Spirit forth, fulfilling prophets' word, to those who followed Jesus and who called him Lord. And as disciples met near temple courts for prayer the Spirit blew and rested on those gathered there. 3 God's Spirit filled each one, as Jesus had foretold. In many tongues they spoke God's Word, renewed and bold. "Repent and be baptized," preached Peter in that hour, and thousands came believing by the Spirit's pow'r. 4 God's Church alive today continues to proclaim salvation by the Spirit's pow'r in Jesus' name. Let all believers now their tongues and lives employ. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, our highest joy! Topics: Day of Pentecost Languages: English Tune Title: YIGDAL

We sing a love that sets all people free

Author: June Boyce-Tillman (b. 1943) Hymnal: Church Hymnary (4th ed.) #622 (2005) Meter: 10.10.10.10 Scripture: Acts 2:3 Lyrics: 1 We sing a love that sets all people free, that blows like wind, that burns like scorching flame, enfolds the earth, springs up like water clear: come, living love, live in our hearts today. 2 We sing a love that seeks another's good, that longs to serve and not to count the cost, a love that, yielding, finds itself made new: come, caring love, live in our hearts today. 3 We sing a love, unflinching, unafraid to be itself, despite another's wrath, a love that stands alone and undismayed: come, strengthening love, live in our hearts today. 4 We sing a love, that, wandering, will not rest until it finds its way, its home, its source, through joy and sadness pressing on refreshed: come, pilgrim love, live in our hearts today. 5 We sing a burning, fiery, Holy Ghost that seeks out shades of ancient bitterness, transfiguring these, as Christ in every heart: come joyful love, live in our hearts today.
