Was Director of the Lambeth Mission in South London, which was maintained under the auspices of the Methodist Church. --The Hymn Society, DNAH Archives ============================== Thomas Tiplady is the Director of the Lambeth Mission in South London which is maintained under the auspices of the Methodist Church. There for thirty-seven years he has ministered among the poor of that section of the great British metropolis. It has been a ministry with many unique features among them a moving picture program at the "Ideal" which has become an institution in itself. Out of this work in London have come several volumes of hymns written originially for use in the services at the Mission. Several of these hymns are to be found in American hymnbooks. James Arnold Blaisdell

1867 - 1957 Person Name: James A. Blaisdell, 1867-1957 Author of "Beneath the Forms of Outward Rite" in Hymns of the Saints James Arnold Blaisdell was born in Beloit, Wisconsin, December 15, 1867. He graduated from Beloit College in 1899 and became a minister, then returned to Beloit College as Chair of the Bible Department and director of the library. In 1910 he became of Pomona College (California). The college grew under his leadership. In 1921 he made the decision to cap enrollment to keep the college small. He soon developed the vision of small liberal arts colleges sharing common facilities. He became head of the Claremont Colleges Consortium in 1927. Dianne Shapiro, from Anderson, Seth. Harriet Auber

1773 - 1862 Author of "O Praise Our Great and Gracious LORD" in Psalms of Grace Auber, Harriet, daughter of Mr. James Auber, b. in London, Oct. 4, 1773. During the greater part of her quiet and secluded life she resided at Broxbourne and Hoddesdon, Herts, and died at the latter place on the 20th Jan., 1862. Miss Auber wrote devotional and other poetry, but only a portion of the former was published in her Spirit of the Psalms, in 1829. This collection is mainly her work, and from it some useful versions of the Psalms have been taken and included in modern hymn-books, about 20 appearing in Spurgeon's Our Own Hymn Book, 1866. Miss Auber's name is widely known, but it is principally through her exquisite lyric, "Our blest Redeemer, ere He breathed," and the Epiphany hymn, "Bright was the guiding star that led." (For criticism of her work, see English Psalters, §. 17.) In addition to these and other hymns by Miss Auber, which are annotated under their respective first lines, the following are also in C.
