God of my life, whose gracious power

Author: C. Wesley Hymnal: The Voice of Praise #620 (1873) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Scripture: Isaiah 42:16 Lyrics: 1 God of my life, whose gracious power Through varied deaths my soul hath led, Or turned aside the fatal hour, Or lifted up my sinking head: 2 In all my ways, thy hand I own-- Thy ruling providence I see: Assist me still my course to run, And still direct my paths to thee. 3 Whither, oh, whither should I fly, But to my loving Saviour's breast! Secure within thine arms to lie, And safe beneath thy wings to rest. 4 I have no skill the snare to shun, But thou, O Christ, my wisdom art: I ever into ruin run, But thou art greater than my heart. 5 Foolish, and impotent, and blind, Lead me a way I have not known; Bring me where I my heaven may find-- The heaven of loving thee alone. Lord, thy glory fills the heaven

Author: Ancient Hymns Hymnal: The Voice of Praise #103 (1873) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Scripture: Isaiah 42:21 Lyrics: 1 LORD, thy glory fills the heaven; Earth is with its fullness stored; Unto thee be glory given, Holy, holy, holy Lord! Heaven is still with anthems ringing: Earth takes up the angels' cry, Holy, holy, holy, singing, Lord of hosts, the Lord most high! 2 Ever thus in God's high praises, Brethren, let our tongues unite, While our thoughts his greatness raises, And our love his gifts excite. With his seraph train before him, With his holy church below, Thus unite we to adore him, Bid we thus our anthem flow: 3 Lord, thy glory fills the heaven; Earth is with its fullness stored; Unto thee be glory given, Holy, holy, holy Lord! Thus, thy glorious name confessing, We adopt the angels' cry, Holy, holy, holy,--blessing Thee, the Lord our God most High! Topics: Attributes of God Holiness; Thrice Holy

Comfort, Comfort Now My People

Author: Johannes G. Olearius; Catherine Winkworth Hymnal: The Worshiping Church #132 (1990) Meter: 8.7.8.7.7.7.8.8 Scripture: Isaiah 42:16 Lyrics: 1 "Comfort, comfort now my people; tell of peace!" so says our God. Comfort those who sit in darkness mourning under sorrow's load. To God's people now proclaim that God's pardon waits for them! Tell them that their war is over; God will reign in peace forever! 2 For the herald's voice is crying in the desert far and near, calling all to true repentance, since the Kingdom now is here. Oh, that warning cry obey! Now prepare for God a way! Let the valleys rise to meet him, and the hills bow down to greet him! 3 Straight shall be what long was crooked, and the rougher places plain! Let your hearts be true and humble, as befits his holy reign! For the glory of the Lord now on earth is shed abroad, and all flesh shall see the token that God's word is never broken. "A way they knew not"

Author: Charles S. Robinson Hymnal: Laudes Domini #329 (1888) Scripture: Isaiah 42:16 First Line: Saviour! I follow on Lyrics: 1 Saviour! I follow on, Guided by thee, Seeing not yet the hand That leadeth me; Hushed be my heart and still, Fear I no further ill; Only to meet thy will My will shall be. 2 Riven the rock for me Thirst to relieve, Manna from heaven falls Fresh every eve; Never a want severe Causeth my eye a tear, But thou dost whisper near, "Only believe!" 3 Often to Marah's brink Have I been brought; Shrinking the cup to drink, Help I have sought; And with the prayer's ascent, Jesus the branch hath rent-- Quickly relief hath sent, Sweetening the draught. 4 Saviour! I long to walk Closer with thee; Led by thy guiding hand, Ever to be; Constantly near thy side, Quickened and purified, Living for him who died Freely for me!
