Stand Up, O God, Be Present Now

Author: Michael Seward, b. 1932 Meter: 8.8.8.8.8.8 D Appears in 1 hymnal Topics: Miracles Lyrics: 1 Stand up, O God, be present now, and all who hate you, let them run like driven smoke, like melting wax, bound for destruction, doomed to die. But let the righteous sing and dance, yes, sing and dance and shout for joy, for he who rides upon the clouds is coming, as he came of old. His justice vindicates the oppressed, he frees the pris'ner, brings him home. Refrain: Stand up, O God, be present now, and we will sing and shout for joy. 2 Stand up, O God, be present now, as once on Sinai you were heard by those who left the prison's chain, who crossed the sea and faced the sand. They ate the manna, drank from springs provided by your gracious love. They watched as mighty armies fled, and so they gained the promised land. Now, marching on to Zion's mount, we see the heav'nly hosts descend. [Refrain] 3 Stand up, O God, be present now, and we, your people, will rejoice, for you have saved us from the pit, for you have brought us back from death. So, to your holy place, we come with choirs and music, young and old. Rebuke the godless, cast them down till humbled, they for mercy call; then men shall listen for your voice as riding through the heav'ns you come. [Refrain] Scripture: Psalm 68 Used With Tune: STAND UP

For The Crowd Of Thousands

Author: Fred Kaan; Willem Barnard Meter: 6.5.6.5 Appears in 2 hymnals Topics: Jesus Christ Miracles Lyrics: 1 For the crowd of thousands sitting on the ground, seven is sufficient, seven will go round. 2 Seven is sufficient, fish and loaves of bread, Jesus, for our hunger, gives us life instead. 3 Jesus makes his offer: fish and bread as food, Make us truly thankful, make our living good. 4 If we give to Jesus bread to bless and break, five and two will feed us seven days a week. 5 What we give to Jesus, and with others share, will at last be gathered: over and to spare! Sin and Divine Patience

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 3 hymnals Topics: Miracles First Line: Their God and Saviour they forgot Lyrics: 1 Their God and Saviour they forgot, Their helper and their stay, But Moses plead the promised grace And turned God's wrath away. 2 Yea, they despised the pleasant land, The promised land of God, And tempted Him to make them fall And scatter them abroad. 3 They sacrificed to heathen gods, And God their sin repaid; Then holy wrath avenged the wrong, And so the plague was stayed. 4 The Lord approved the righteous act Of him who sin abhorred, And honored him for evermore With just and great reward. 5 By wicked strife they angered God, His wrath they did provoke; And, stirred by their rebellious cries, Their leader rashly spoke. 6 Ensnared, they served the heathen gods, And by them were beguiled; The blood of children sacrificed The very land defiled. 7 Against His own inheritance Jehovah's wrath arose, His chosen people He condemned To serve their heathen foes. 8 Though from their harsh oppressors' hand Ofttimes He set them free, Rebellious still, they were brought low In their iniquity. 9 When unto God they cried, he heard And turned again His face, In boundless love remembering The covenant of His grace. 10 He even touched their captors' hearts, And made their very foes Compassionate and pitiful To feel his people's woes. 11 Save us, O Lord, our gracious God, From alien lands reclaim That we may triumph in Thy praise And bless Thy holy Name. 12 Blessed be the Lord our covenant God, All praise to Him accord; Let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye, praise ye the Lord. Scripture: Psalm 106 Used With Tune: NOTTINGHAM

My People, Give Ear, Attend to My Word

Meter: 10.10.11.11 Appears in 11 hymnals Topics: Miracles Lyrics: 1 My people, give ear, attend to my word, in parables new deep truths shall be heard; the wonderful story our fathers made known to children succeeding by us must be shown. 2 Instructing our sons we gladly record the praises, the works, the might of the Lord, for he has commanded that what he has done be passed in tradition from father to son. 3 Let children thus learn from history's light to hope in our God and walk in his sight, the God of their fathers to fear and obey, and ne'er like their fathers to turn from his way. 4 The story be told, to warn and restrain, of hearts that were hard, rebellious, and vain, of soldiers who faltered when battle was near, who kept not God's cov'nant nor walked in his fear. 5 God's wonderful works to them he had shown, his marvelous deeds their fathers had known; he made for their pathway the waters divide, his glorious pillar of cloud was their guide. 6 Unharmed through the sea, where perished their foe, he caused them with ease and safety to go; his holy land gaining, in peace they were brought to dwell in the mountain the Lord's hand had bought. 7 He gave them the land, a heritage fair; the nations that dwelt in wickedness there he drove out before them with great overthrow, and gave to his people the tents of the foe. 8 His servant he called, a shepherd of sheep, from tending his flock, the people to keep; so David, their shepherd, with wisdom and might protected and fed them and led them aright. Scripture: Psalm 78 Used With Tune: HANOVER (CROFT) Text Sources: The Psalter, 1912

Behold, a Woman from the City

Author: Gracia Grindal Appears in 2 hymnals Topics: Jesus Christ Miracles of Lyrics: 1 Behold, a woman from the city came to the place where Jesus ate, brought a box of precious ointment; with her tears the woman washed his feet, weeping as the Savior ate. 2 Behold, the woman kissed and washed him, drying him with her lovely hair, shocking those who sat with Jesus, even though they saw the woman's tears: "Does not Jesus know of her?" 3 Then he rebuked the pious Simon, "Tell me, my friend, who would love more - one who had been much forgiven or the one whose sins were small and few? Who would weep the bitterest tear? 4 "Behold, the woman is repentant. See how she gives her finest oil, for she has been much forgiven." Then he said unto the woman, "Go, go, your faith has made you whole." Scripture: Luke 7:36-50 Used With Tune: TEARS
