When the last trumpet's awful voice

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 12 hymnals Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:52-58 Lyrics: When the last trumpet’s awful voice this rending earth shall shake, When op’ning graves shall yield their charge, and dust to life awake; Those bodies that corrupted fell shall incorrupted rise, And mortal forms shall spring to life immortal in the skies. Behold what heav’nly prophets sung is now at last fulfilled That Death should yield his ancient reign, and, vanquished, quit the field. Let Faith exalt her joyful voice, and thus begin to sing; O Grave! where is thy triumph now? and where, O Death! thy sting? Thy sting was sin, and conscious guilt, ’twas this that armed thy dart; The law gave sin its strength and force to pierce the sinner’s heart: But God, whose name be ever bless’d! disarms that foe we dread, And makes us conqu’rors when we die, through Christ our living head. Then stedfast let us still remain, though dangers rise around, And in the work prescribed by God yet more and more abound; Assured that though we labour now, we labour not in vain, But, through the grace of heav’n’s great Lord, th’ eternal crown shall gain.

Spirit of God within Me

Author: Timothy Dudley-Smith, b. 1926 Meter: 7.6.8.7.8.6.8.6 Appears in 10 hymnals Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:22-23 Lyrics: 1 Spirit of God within me, Possess my human frame; Fan the dull embers of my heart, Stir up the living flame: Strive till that image Adam lost, New minted and restored, In shining splendor brightly bears The likeness of the Lord. 2 Spirit of truth within me, Possess my thought and mind; Lighten anew the inward eye By Satan rendered blind: Shine on the words that wisdom speaks And grant me pow'r to see The truth made known to all in Christ, And in that truth be free. 3 Spirit of love within me, Possess my hands and heart; Break through the bonds of self-concern That seeks to stand apart: Grant me the love that suffers long, That hopes, believes and bears; The love fulfilled in sacrifice, That cares as Jesus cares. 4 Spirit of life within me, Possess this life of mine; Come as the wind of heaven's breath, Come as the fire divine! Spirit of Christ, the living Lord, Reign in this house of clay, Till from its dust with Christ I rise To everlasting day. Used With Tune: WILLOW RIVER

If Christ Had Not Been Raised from Death

Author: Christopher M. Idle, b. 1938 Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 7 hymnals Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:12-26 Lyrics: 1 If Christ had not been raised from death Our faith would be in vain, Our preaching but a waste of breath, Our sin and guilt remain. But now the Lord is ris'n indeed; He rules in earth and heav'n: His Gospel meets a world of need-- In Christ we are forgiv'n. 2 If Christ still lay within the tomb Then death would be the end, And we should face our final doom With neither guide nor friend. But now the Saviour is raised up, So when a Christian dies We mourn, yet look to God in hope-- In Christ the saints arise! 3 If Christ had not been truly raised His church would live a lie; His name should never more be praised, His words deserve to die. But now our great Redeemer lives; Through Him we are restored; His word endures, His church revives In Christ, our risen Lord. Topics: Death and Burial Used With Tune: UNION CITY

Lift high His royal banner; It must not suffer loss. From vict'ry unto vict'ry His army He shall lead Till ev'ry foe is vanquished, And Christ is Lord indeed. 2 Stand up, stand up for Jesus; The trumpet call obey; Stand forth in the mighty conflict In this His glorious day. Let all His faithful serve Him Against unnumbered foes; Let courage rise with danger And strength to strength oppose. 3 Stand up, stand up for Jesus; Stand in His strength alone. The arm of flesh will fail you, Ye dare not trust your own. Put on the Gospel armor; Each piece put on with prayer. Where duty calls or danger, Be never wanting there. 4 Stand up, stand up for Jesus; The strife will not be long; This day the din of battle, The next the victor's song.
