See what a living stone

Hymnal: Appendix, Containing a Number of Hymns Taken Chiefly from Dr. Watts's Scriptural Collection #XCIII (1765) Scripture: John 13 Lyrics: 1 See what a living Stone the Builders did refuse; Yet God hath built his Church thereon, in Spite of envious Jews. 2 The Scribe and angry Priest reject thine only Son; Yet on this Rock shall Zion rest, as the chief Corner-Stone. 3 The Work, O Lord, is thine, and wondrous in our Eyes: This Day declares it all divine, this Day did Jesus rise. 4 This is the glorious Day that our Redeemer made; Let us rejoice, and sing and pray, let all the Church be glad. 5 Hosanna to the King of David's Royal Blood; Bless him, ye Saints; he comes to bring Salvation from your God. 6 We bless thine holy Word, which all this Grace displays; And offer on thine Altar, Lord, our Sacrifice of Praise. My song is love unknown

Author: Samuel Crossman (c. 1624-1683) Hymnal: Church Hymnary (4th ed.) #399 (2005) Meter: 6.6.12.8.8 Scripture: John 13:1 Lyrics: 1 My song is love unknown, my Savior’s love to me, love to the loveless shown, that they might lovely be. Oh, who am I, that for my sake my Lord should take frail flesh, and die? 2 He came from his blest throne, salvation to bestow: but people scorned, and none the longed-for Christ would know. But O my Friend, my Friend indeed, who at my need his life did spend! 3 Sometimes they strew his way, and his strong praises sing; resounding all the day hosannas to their King. Then 'Crucify!' is all their breath, and for his death they thirst and cry. 4 Why, what hath my Lord done? What makes this rage and spite? He made the lame to run, he gave the blind their sight. Sweet injuries! Yet they at these themselves displease, and 'gainst him rise. 5 They rise, and needs will have my dear Lord made away; a murderer they save, the Prince of Life they slay. Yet cheerful he to suffering goes, that he his foes from thence might free. 6 In life, no house, no home my Lord on earth might have; in death, no friendly tomb but what a stranger gave. What may I say? Heaven was his home: but mine the tomb wherein he lay. 7 Here might I stay and sing: no story so divine; never was love, dear King, never was grief like thine! This is my Friend, in whose sweet praise I all my days could gladly spend. "Plead for me"

Author: Charlotte Elliott Hymnal: Laudes Domini #292 (1888) Scripture: John 13:1 First Line: O Thou, the contrite sinner's Friend Lyrics: 1 O Thou, the contrite sinner's Friend, Who loving, lov'st them to the end, On this alone my hopes depend, That thou wilt plead for me. 2 When weary in the Christian race, Far off appears my resting place, And, fainting, I mistrust thy grace, Then, Saviour, plead for me. 3 When I have erred and gone astray, Afar from thine and wisdom's way, And see no glimmering, guiding ray, Still, Saviour, plead for me. 4 When Satan, by my sins made bold, Strives from thy cross to loose my hold, Then with thy pitying arms enfold, And plead, oh, plead for me! 5 And when my dying hour draws near, Darkened with anguish, guilt and fear, Then to my fainting sight appear, Pleading in heaven for me. Whom have I in heaven but thee? Nothing else my joy can be. 3 Jesus, Master, I am thine; Keep me faithful, keep me near; Let thy presence in me shine All my homeward way to cheer.
