Attended Rochester Theological Seminary, 1863-1866, 1867, 1868; University of Lewisburgh (Pennsylvania), 1866-1867. Pastorates at Buffalo, N.Y., 1867-1873; First German Baptist Church, 1873-1893, and 1904-1919, Brooklyn, N.Y. General secretary for German Baptist Home Mission work and editor of the German Baptist publications in Cleveland, 1894-1904. Published a collection of hymns for prayer meetings entitled Die Weckstimme (Brooklyn, 1875). William Scott McKenzie

1832 - 1896 Person Name: W. S. McKenzie Hymnal Number: d120 Author of "Siehe ich komme bald" in Himmels-Harfe für Sonntag-Schulen, Jugendvereine und Evangelisations-Versammlungen McKenzie, William Scott, D.D., son of Scottish parents, was born at Liverpool, Nova Scotia, Feb. 29, 1832. Entering the Baptist ministry, he held several pastorates until 1873, when he became district secretary for New England of the American Baptist Missionary Union. His hymn "Ye mortals come, adore the Lord" (Passiontide), is in The Canadian Baptist Hymnal, 1888. --John Julian, Dictionary of Hymnology, Appendix, Part II (1907) =============== McKenzie, W. Born at West Cowes, Isle of Wight, UK, he emigrated to the US when young and attended school in Canada. He was ordained a Methodist minister in Oshawa, ON, in 1868. Over the next decade he pastored at churches in Canada, NY, and WI. He switched to the Congregationalist denomination in 1878, serving churches in Mondovi, Shullsburg, and Hixton, WI, and Grand Rapids, MI. From 1882 -1901 he held pastorates at Ames, Webster City, Parkersburg, Peterson, and Tripoli, IA.. He died in Chicago, IL. John Perry
