Hymn 34 Part 2

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #I.34.2 (1806) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Scripture: Romans 1:16 First Line: Jesus, thy blessings are not few Lyrics: Jesus, thy blessings are not few, Nor is thy gospel weak; Thy grace can melt the stubborn Jew, And bow th' aspiring Greek. Wide as the reach of Satan's rage Doth thy salvation flow; 'Tis not confined to sex or age, The lofty or the low. While grace is offered to the prince, The poor may take their share; No mortal has a just pretence To perish in despair Be wise, ye men of strength and wit, Nor boast your native powers; But to his sovereign grace submit, And glory shall be yours. Come, all ye vilest sinners, come, He'll form your souls anew; His gospel and his heart have room For rebels such as you. His doctrine is almighty love; There's virtue in his name To turn the raven to a dove, The lion to a lamb. Languages: English

I Bind unto Myself Today

Author: Patrick of Ireland (389?-461?); Cecil Frances Alexander (1818-1895) Hymnal: Common Praise (1998) #436 (1998) Meter: Irregular Scripture: Romans 1:16-17 Lyrics: 1 I bind unto myself today the strong name of the Trinity, by invocation of the same, the Three-in-One, and One-in-Three. 2 I bind this day to me for ever, by power of faith, Christ's incarnation, his baptism in the Jordan river, his death on cross for my salvation. His bursting from the spiced tomb, his riding up the heavenly way, his coming at the day of doom, I bind unto myself today. 3 I bind unto myself today the virtues of the starlit heaven, the glorious sun's life-giving ray, the whiteness of the moon at even, the flashing of the lightning free, the whirling wind's tempestuous shocks, the stable earth, the deep salt sea, around the old eternal rocks. 4 I bind unto myself today the power of God to hold and lead, his eye to watch, his might to stay, his ear to hearken to my need, the wisdom of my God to teach, his hand to guide, his shield to ward; the word of God to give me speech, his heavenly host to be my guard. 5 Christ be with me, Christ within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ in quiet, Christ in danger, Christ in hearts of all that love me, Christ in mouth of friend and stranger. 6 I bind unto myself the name, the strong name of the Trinity, by invocation of the same, the Three-in-One, and One-in-Three. of whom all nature hath creation, eternal Father, Spirit, Word. Praise to the Lord of my salvation, salvation is of Christ the Lord. Topics: Call and Vocation; Covenant; Ordination; Trinity Languages: English Tune Title: ST. PATRICK'S BREASTPLATE
