Your Word Is like a Garden, Lord

Author: Edwin Hodder Hymnal: Trinity Hymnal (Rev. ed.) #139 (1990) Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Scripture: Psalm 119 Lyrics: 1 Your Word is like a garden, Lord, with flowers bright and fair; and everyone who seeks may pluck a lovely cluster there. Your Word is like a deep, deep mine; and jewels rich and rare are hidden in its mighty depths for every searcher there. 2 Your Word is like a starry host; a thousand rays of light are seen to guide the traveler, and make his pathway bright. Your Word is like an armory, where soldiers may repair, and find, for life's long battle day, all needful weapons there. 3 O may I love your precious Word, may I explore the mine, may I its fragrant flowers glean, may light upon me shine. O may I find my armor there, your Word my trusty sword; I'll learn to fight with every foe the battle of the Lord. Blessed Jesus, at Your Word

Author: Tobias Clausnitzer; Catherine Winkworth Hymnal: Lift Up Your Hearts #763 (2013) Meter: 7.8.7.8.8.8 Scripture: Psalm 119:1-8 Lyrics: 1 Blessed Jesus, at your word we are gathered all to hear you. Let our hearts and souls be stirred now to seek and love and fear you. By your gospel pure and holy, teach us, Lord, to love you solely. 2 All our knowledge, sense, and sight lie in deepest darkness shrouded, till your Spirit breaks our night with your beams of truth unclouded. You alone to God can win us; you must work all good within us. 3 Glorious Lord, yourself impart; Light of Light, from God proceeding, open lips and ears and heart; help us by your Spirit's leading. Hear the cry your church now raises; Lord, accept our prayers and praises. Psalm 119 Part 7

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #Ps.270 (1806) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Scripture: Psalm 119 First Line: Let all the heathen writers join Lyrics: Let all the heathen writers join To form one perfect book; Great God! if once compared with thine, How mean their writings look! Not the most perfect rules they gave Could show one sin forgiv'n, Nor lead a step beyond the grave; But thine conduct to heav'n. I've seen an end to what we call Perfection here below; How short the powers of nature fall, And can no further go! Yet men would fain be just with God By works their hands have wrought; But thy commands, exceeding broad, Extend to every thought. In vain we boast perfection here, While sin defiles our frame, And sinks our virtues down so far, They scarce deserve the name. Our faith, and love, and every grace, Fall far below thy word; But perfect truth and righteousness Dwell only with the Lord. Psalm 119 Part 16

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #Ps.279 (1806) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Scripture: Psalm 119 First Line: My soul lies cleaving to the dust Lyrics: My soul lies cleaving to the dust; Lord, give me life divine; From vain desires and every lust Turn off these eyes of mine. I need the influence of thy grace To speed me in thy way, Lest I should loiter in my race, Or turn my feet astray. When sore afflictions press me down, I need thy quick'ning powers; Thy word that I have rested on Shall help my heaviest hours. Are not thy mercies sovereign still, And thou a faithful God? Wilt thou not grant me warmer zeal To run the heav'nly road? Does not my heart thy precepts love, And long to see thy face? And yet how slow my spirits move Without enliv'ning grace! Then shall I love thy gospel more, And ne'er forget thy word, When I have felt its quick'ning power, To draw me near the Lord. Topics: Desire of quickening grace; Quickening grace Languages: English
