By Grace I Am an Heir of Heaven

Author: Christian L. Scheidt; H. Brueckner Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Appears in 9 hymnals Topics: Holy Scriptures Infallibility of Lyrics: 1 By grace I am an heir of heaven: why doubt this, O my trembling heart? If what the Scriptures promise clearly is true and firm in ev'ry part, this also must be truth divine: by grace a crown of life is mine. 2 By grace alone shall I inherit that blissful home beyond the skies. Works count for naught, the Lord incarnate hath won for me the heav'nly prize. Salvation by his death he wrought, his grace alone my pardon bought. 3 By grace! These precious words remember when sorely by thy sins oppressed, when Satan comes to vex thy spirit, when troubled conscience sighs for rest; what reason cannot comprehend, God doth to thee by grace extend. 4 By grace! Be this in death my comfort; despite my fears, 'tis well with me. I know my sin in all its greatness, but also him who sets me free. My heart to naught but joy gives place since I am saved by grace, by grace. Scripture: Titus 3:7 Used With Tune: NEUMARK

By Grace I'm Saved, Grace Free and Boundless

Author: Christian L. Scheidt Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Appears in 24 hymnals Topics: Holy Scriptures Infallibility of Lyrics: 1 By grace I'm saved, grace free and boundless; my soul, believe and doubt it not. Why stagger at this word of promise? Has Scripture ever falsehood taught? No; then this word must true remain: by grace you, too, shall heav'n obtain. 2 By grace! None dare lay claim to merit; our works and conduct have no worth. God in his love sent our Redeemer, Christ Jesus, to this sinful earth; his death did for our sins atone, and we are saved by grace alone. 3 By grace! O mark this word of promise when you are by your sins oppressed, when Satan plagues your troubled conscience, and when your heart is seeking rest. What reason cannot comprehend God by his grace to you will send. 4 By grace! This ground of faith is certain; So long as God is true, it stands. What saints have penned by inspiration, what in his Word our God commands, what our whole faith must rest upon, is grace alone, grace in his Son. Scripture: Ephesians 2:8-9 Used With Tune: MENTZER

By the thoughtless world derided

Meter: Irregular Appears in 11 hymnals Topics: The Scriptures Lyrics: 1 By the thoughtless world derided, Still I love the word of God; 'Tis the crook by which I'm guided, Often 'tis a chastening rod. 'Tis a sword that cuts asunder All my pride and vanity, When abas'd I lie, and wonder That he spares a wretch like me. 2 This confirms me when I waver, Sets my trembling judgment right; When I stray, how much so over, This is my restoring light: Satan oft, and sin, assail me, With temptations ever new; Then, O nothing can avail me, 'Till my bleeding Lord I view. 3 Faith I need, O Lord bestow it, Give my labouring mind relief; Oft, alas! I doubt, I know it, Help, O help my unbelief. Dearest Saviour, by thy merit May I gain a future crown; Guide, O guide me by thy Spirit, Till these storms are overblown! Scripture: Psalm 119:97

Called to Gather as God's People

Author: Carl P. Daw, Jr., 1944- Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 3 hymnals Topics: Scripture Lyrics: 1 Called to gather as God's people, we assemble in this place to unite our hearts and voices in thanksgiving for God's grace: for the birthing of creation, for Christ's rising from death's hold, for the coming of the Spirit, week by week claimed and retold. 2 Taught and formed by proclamation, we await God's promised word: song and story, psalm and precept, all the range of scripture heard. By this ancient, living witness We are summoned to confess how we fall short, yet can trust that God will hear, forgive, and bless. 3 Fed at Christ's abundant table, we partake of holy food, wake the gifts of hope and mem'ry, taste and see that God is good. So our mingled lives are taken, blessed, and broken for Christ's sake, given out to feed and comfort bodies, minds, and hearts that ache. 4 Sent to share the Spirit's blessing, we go forth renewed, restored, humbled by the task before us, strengthened by the Love outpoured. Finding faith confirmed in action, led by hope through each new day, we are called to be God's people, living what we sing and pray. Scripture: Romans 10:17 Used With Tune: O DU LIEBE MEINER LIEBE
