Author: William Merrill Vories Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 78 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Let there be light, Lord God of Hosts, Let there be wisdom on the earth; Let broad humanity have birth, Let there be deeds, instead of boasts. 2 Within our passioned hearts instill The calm that endeth strain and strife; Make us Thy ministers of life; Purge us from lusts that curse and kill. 3 Give us the peace of vision clear To see our brothers' good our own, To joy and suffer not alone— The love that casteth out all fear. 4 Let woe and waste of warfare cease, That useful labor yet may build Its homes with love and laughter filled; God, give Thy wayward children peace. With new made Songs, let GOD be praised

Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: 1 With new-made Songs, let GOD be praised, Who wondrous Things for us hath done With his Right Hand and Arm upraised,, A glorious Conquest he has won. The LORD, hat to the World, dismayed, Declar'd his Strength and saving Might, He hath his righteous Acts displayed, Before th' astonish'd Heathens Sight. 2 The LORD, in Love and Truth excelling, Of Israel's House hath mindful been; And Nations in Earth's Corners dwelling, The saving Pow'r of GOD have seen. Let Earth's Inhabitants, combining, To him their joyful Voices raise; Let all in Songs of Triumph joining, Loudly resound their Maker's Praise. 3 With many tuneful Harps surrounding, Let them into the Concert bring, Trumpets and Cornets, shrilly sounding, And hymn glad Praises to their King: Let the loud Ocean roar, transported, With all that spacious Seas contain, Be Earth's Inhabitants exhorted, To join in Praise the noisy Main. 4 Let Streams, thro' fertile Meadows bounding, In larger Torrents dance and play; Let Hills and Vales their Joy resounding, Far off redoubled Shouts convey: To welcome down the King renowned, Who does in awful Triumph come, With never fading Glory crowned, With Justice to reward or doom. Topics: Prophecies Of Jesus Christ, concerning his Coming and Government; Songs of Praise to God the coming of the Savior Scripture: Psalm 98 Used With Tune: [With new made songs, let God be praised]

Let Glory Be to God on High

Author: Anonymous Meter: 8.8.8.8.8.8 Appears in 14 hymnals Lyrics: 1. Let glory be to God on high: Peace be on earth as in the sky; Good will to men! We bow the knee, We praise, we bless, we worship Thee; We give Thee thanks, Thy name we sing, Almighty Father! Heav’nly King! 2. O Lord, the sole begotten Son, Who bore the crimes which we had done; Son of the Father, who wast slain To take away the sins of men; O Lamb of God, whose blood was spilt For all the world, and all its guilt— 3. Have mercy on us, through Thy blood; Receive our prayer, O Lamb of God! For Thou art holy; Thou alone, At God’s right hand, upon His throne, In all His glory, art adored, With Thee, O Holy Ghost, one Lord. Used With Tune: MELITA Text Sources: From the Liturgy of St. James & an 8th Century manuscript in the British Museum; Sabbath Hymn Book (Andover, Massachusetts: 1858)

Psalm 50: Let God, Who Called the Worlds to Be

Author: David Mowbray Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 2 hymnals First Line: Let God, who called the worlds to be Lyrics: 1 Let God, who called the worlds to be, arise in all-consuming fire to judge the people righteously, and faithless ones with awe inspire. 2 This God is ours, and yet we break the covenant made long ago. God’s words we foolishly forsake; God’s ways we have refused to know. 3 For though our lips have preached God’s law, our erring hearts have scorned the name. We choose the thief and slanderer as friends, and so increase our shame. 4 What then shall God the Lord demand? Not gifts or lavish offering, but vows and promises performed, and lives from which true praises spring!

Psalm 67: The Earth Has Yielded Its Fruit

Let God Arise

Author: Christopher Idle Meter: 10.10.10.10 Appears in 2 hymnals First Line: Let God arise! His enemies by gone Lyrics: 1 Let God arise! His enemies be gone, melting in fear before the Holy One. Make known the LORD, and sound his name aloud to praise the King who rides upon the cloud. 2 Father and judge, he gave the world his law with freedom, love, and justice for the poor. God spoke the word, and faithful was the band of those who took the truth to ev'ry land. 3 See God ascend, with captives as his prize, and gifts for all who shall in him arise. Bless day by day the living God who saves, who raises up his people from their graves. 4 Draw near the throne: musicians, lead our song! All nations, tribes, and races join the throng. All strength is his! The rebels reign no more; he scatters all who take delight in war. 5 God rules on high, and mighty is his voice. To God be praise; in God we shall rejoice. Glory to God, Creator, Savior, friend, whose greatness, love, and wisdom never end. Topics: Ascension; Enemies; Jerusalem; Joy; Nature; Orphans; Peace; Questioning; Singing; Ten Commandments 3rd Commandment (Remember the Sabbath); Widows Scripture: Psalm 68 Used With Tune: NATIONAL HYMN

God said, Let there be light

Author: James Montgomery Meter: 6.6.8.6 Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: God said, "Let there be light!" And light sprang forth, new born; He spake, 'twas done,--primeval night Brake into glorious morn. Who then shall dare to say, "Let there be darkness"--none But ravening wolves that hate the day, And owls that fear the sun. Stars, from the solar fount, Their borrow'd lustre draw; Moses came radiant from the mount To teach God's holy law. Warm from the throne of grace, Where we have learnt His will; When we go forth may every face Express His image still. Light in the Lord are we, While by His truth we stand, Reflecting beams of Deity, Like stars in His right hand. So shall our schools be found As gardens of the Lord, And fruits of holiness abound, Where'er we plant the Word. Sacred Poems and Hymns
