Blomfield, Charles James, D.D., was born at Bury St. Edmunds, 1786, and graduated at Trinity College, Cambridge. On taking Holy Orders he held positions of importance in the Church, including the Rectory of St. Botolph, Bishopsgate, London; the Bishopric of Chester, 1824; and the Bishopric of London, 1828. He died in 1857. It was under his patronage that Hall published his Mitre Hymn Book, in 1836, and to it he contributed two hymns for school anniversaries:—
1. In hymns of joy your voices raise.
2. 0 Thou, Who from the infant's tongue.
These hymns are unknown to modern collections [H. MSS.]
