O Thou, Who at Thy Eucharist Didst Pray

Author: William Harry Turton, 1956-1938 Meter: 10.10.10.10.10.10 Appears in 76 hymnals Lyrics: 1 O thou, who at thy Eucharist didst pray that all thy church might be forever one; grant us at every Eucharist to say, with longing heart and soul, "Thy will be done." O may we all one bread, one body be, through this blest sacrament of unity. 2 For all thy church, O Lord, we intercede; make thou our sad divisions soon to cease. Draw us nearer each to each, we plead, by drawing all to thee, O prince of Peace: thus may we all one bread, one body be, through this blest sacrament of unity. 3 We pray thee too for wanderers from thy fold; O bring them back, good Shepherd of the sheep, back to the faith which saints believed of old, back to the church which still that faith doth keep. Soon may we all one bread, on body be, through this blest sacrament of unity. 4 So, Lord, at length when sacraments shall cease, may we be one with all thy church above, one with thy saints in one unbroken peace, one with thy saints in one unbounded love: more blessed still, in peace and love to be one with the Trinity in unity. If Christ Had Not Been Raised from Death

Author: Christopher Idle Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 8 hymnals Lyrics: 1 If Christ had not been raised from death our faith would be in vain, our preaching but a waste of breath, our sin and guilt remain. But now the Lord is risen indeed; he rules in earth and heaven: his gospel meets a world of need — in Christ we are forgiven. 2 If Christ still lay within the tomb then death would be the end, and we should face our final doom with neither guide nor friend. But now the Savior is raised up, so when a Christian dies we mourn, yet look to God in hope — in Christ the saints arise! 3 If Christ had not been truly raised his Church would live a lie; his name should nevermore be praised, his words deserve to die. But now our great Redeemer lives; through him we are restored: his word endures, his Church revives in Christ, our risen Lord. Topics: All Saints Day; Comfort and Encouragement; Funerals; Resurrection Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:12-20 Used With Tune: [If Christ had not been raised from death]

To a Maid Whose Name Was Mary

Author: Gracia Grindal Meter: 7.6.7.6.7.6 Appears in 12 hymnals Lyrics: 1 To a maid whose name was Mary, the angel Gabriel came. “Fear not,” the angel told her, “I come to bring good news; good news I come to tell you, good news, I say, good news.” 2 “For you are highly favored by God the Lord of all, who even now is with you. You are on earth most blest; you are most blest, most blessed. God chose you; you are blest!” 3 But Mary was most troubled to hear the angel’s word. What was the angel saying? It troubled her to hear, to hear the angel’s message; it troubled her to hear. 4 “Fear not, for God is with you, and you shall bear a child. His name shall be called Jesus, God’s offspring from on high. And he shall reign forever, forever reign on high.” 5 “How shall this be?” said Mary, “I am not yet a wife.” The angel answered quickly, “The power of the Most High will come upon you shortly; your child shall be God’s child.” 6 As Mary heard the angel, she wondered at his words. “Behold, I am your handmaid,” she said unto her God. “So be it; I am ready according to your word.” Topics: Annunciation; Biblical Names and Places Mary; Biblical Names and Places Gabriel; Christmas/Birth of Christ; Incarnation of Christ Scripture: Luke 1:26-38 Used With Tune: ANNUNCIATION

You Who Know the Lord Is Gracious

Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 17 hymnals Lyrics: 1 You who know the Lord is gracious, you for whom a cornerstone stands of God elect and precious, laid that you may build thereon, see that on that sure foundation you a living temple raise, towers that may tell forth salvation, walls that may re-echo praise. 2 Living stones by God appointed each to an allotted place, kings and priests, by God anointed, shall you not declare his grace? You, a royal generation, tell the tidings of your birth, tidings of a new creation to an old and weary earth. 3 Tell the praise of him who called you out of darkness into light, broke the fetters that enthralled you, gave you freedom, peace, and sight; tell a tale of sins forgiven, strength renewed, and hope restored, till the earth, in tune with heaven, praise and magnify the Lord. Topics: Election; Proclamation/Testimony Scripture: 1 Peter 2:4-12 Used With Tune: BLAENWERN
