Text: | He Gave His Life for Me |
Author: | H. D. L. |
Tune: | [I stand before the blood-stained cross] |
Composer: | Harry Dixon Loes |
1 I stand before the blood-stained cross
Whereon my Saviour hung for me,
And love repeats in whispers low,
“He gave His life for thee.”
Refrain:
He gave His life for me
That I might live again.
O wondrous love on Calvary
That saves from sin’s dark stain!
2 The debt of sin has all been paid,
My soul is free, O praise His name!
For on the Son of God were laid
My sin, my guilt, and shame. [Refrain]
3 Unworthy of such mighty love,
I boast no merit, make no plea;
Yet, when His justice views my guilt
I cry, “He died for me!” [Refrain]
