168. For Our God and Right

1 Round the world a call is sounding—
Men of God, your armor don,
Hear ye not the noise of conflict?
For the battle now is on;
All ye soldiers ‘neath God’s standard
Arm ye, arm ye, for the fight,
And your battle-cry e ever
“Forward for our God and right.”

Chorus:
Forward for the right!
Forward to the fight!
Hear the battel-cry,
Sounding thro’ the sky!
Face the bitter foe!
and bravely go to battle for our God and right!
Heed the Lord’s command,
Like a soldier stand,
With his banner waving o’er you;
On the field of sin,
Triumph you shall win,
For he leads the way before you.

2 Men of God, the call is urgent,
Fierce the danger, strong the foe,
But with courage all undaunted,
Christian soldiers, forward go;
‘Gainst the hosts that Stan leadeth,
Raging in their evil might,
Fling your cohorts, ever shouting,
“Forward for our God and right.” [Chorus]

3 Men of God, ye must not tarry,
Christ, your Captain, leads the way;
Ye have pledged your oath to follow,
Now in danger will ye stay?
Under his command united,
Ye can put the foe to flight;
Then press onward to the conquest,
Forward for our God and right. [Chorus]

4 Men of God, your strength is needed,
Not yet is the vict’ry won;
Tho’ with clash of arms and trumpets,
Age-long has the battle run;
But, thro’ your divine Commander,
Final triumph is in sight;
‘Neath the flag of the Almighty,
Forward then for God and right. [Chorus]
