The morning star moves up the sky:
the hosts of heaven, with sweet consent,
proclaim salvation's time is high.
Come, praise the long-implored,
our Saviour, Christ the Lord!
2 While man, the rather sin to choose,
prepares the purple, plants the thorn,
the Word of God our flesh endues
that we, by will of God reborn,
the sons of God may be
to all eternity.
3 Let regal power and humble beast
and shepherd, serving both, attend;

b. 1938 Person Name: Christopher Idle (born 1938) Meter: 5.6.6.4 Author of "Lord, you need no house" in Hymns for Today's Church (2nd ed.) Christopher Martin Idle (b. Bromley, Kent, England, 1938) was educated at Elthan College, St. Peter's College, Oxford, and Clifton Theological College in Bristol, and was ordained in the Church of England. He served churches in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria; London; and Oakley, Suffolk; and recently returned to London, where he is involved in various hymnal projects. A prolific author of articles on the Christian's public responsibilities, Idle has also published The Lion Book of Favorite Hymns (1980) and at least one hundred of his own hymns and biblical paraphrases. Some of his texts first appeared in hymnals published by the Jubilate Group, with which he is associated. He was also editor of Anglican Praise (1987). In 1998 Hope Publishing released Light Upon the River, a collection of 279 of his psalm and hymn texts, along with suggested tunes, scripture references, and commentary.

1929 - 2009 Person Name: Fred Kaan (born 1929) Meter: 5.6.6.4 Author of "As we break the bread" in Hymns for Today's Church (2nd ed.) Fred Kaan Hymn writer. His hymns include both original work and translations. He sought to address issues of peace and justice. He was born in Haarlem in the Netherlands in July 1929. He was baptised in St Bavo Cathedral but his family did not attend church regularly. He lived through the Nazi occupation, saw three of his grandparents die of starvation, and witnessed his parents deep involvement in the resistance movement. They took in a number of refugees. He became a pacifist and began attending church in his teens.
Having become interested in British Congregationalism (later to become the United Reformed Church) through a friendship, he was attended Western College in Bristol. He was ordained in 1955 at the Windsor Road Congregational Church in Barry, Glamorgan.
In 1963 he was called to be minister of the Pilgrim Church in Plymouth. It was in this congregation that he began to write hymns. The first edition of Pilgrim Praise was published in 1968, going into second and third editions in 1972 and 1975. He continued writing many more hymns throughout his life.

Rhodes Meter: 5.6.6.4 Author of "God, who made the earth" in The Presbyterian Book of Praise Rhodes, Sarah Betts, née Bradshaw, wife of a Sheffield merchant, wrote "God Who made the earth" (Sunday School Festival) for the Sheffield Sunday School Union Whitsuntide Festival, 1870. The tune also was by Mrs. Rhodes. The hymn is in several collections, including the Methodist Sunday School Hymnbook, 1879, &c.

History
The SmallChurchMusic site was launched in 2006, growing out of the requests from those struggling
to provide suitable music for their services and meetings. Rev. Clyde McLennan was ordained in mid
1960’s and was a pastor in many small Australian country areas, and therefore was acutely aware of
this music problem. Having also been trained as a Pipe Organist, recordings on site (which are a subset
of the smallchurchmusic.com site) are all actually played by Clyde, and also include piano and piano
with organ versions.
About the Recordings All recordings are in MP3 format.
Churches all around the world use the recordings, with downloads averaging over 60,000 per
month.
The recordings normally have an introduction, several verses and a slowdown on the last verse.
Users are encouraged to use software: Audacity (http://www.audacityteam.org) or Song Surgeon (http://songsurgeon.com) to adjust the MP3 number of verses, tempo and pitch to suit their local needs.
