O, how happy are they

Hymnal: The Southern Harmony, and Musical Companion (New ed. thoroughly rev. and much enl.) #127 (1854) Meter: 6.6.9.6.6.9 Lyrics: 1. O how happy are they, Who the Savior obey, And whose treasure is laid up above! Tongue can never express The sweet comfort and peace Of a soul in its earliest love. 2. That comfort was mine, When the favor divine I first found in the blood of the Lamb; When my heart first believed, O what joy I received, What a heaven in Jesus's name! 3. 'Twas a heaven below The Redeemer to know, And the angels could do nothing more, Than to fall at his feet, And the story repeat, And the Savior of sinners adore. 4. Jesus all the day long Was my joy and my song: O that all his salvation might see! "He hath loved me," I cried, "He hath suffered and died, To redeem such a rebel as me." 5. On the wings of his love, I was carried above All sin and temptation, and pain. I could not believe That I ever should grieve, That I ever should suffer again. 6. I rode on the sky, Freely justified I, Nor envied Elijah his seat; My glad soul mounted higher In a chariot of fire, And the world was put under my feet. 7. O the rapturous height Of that holy delight Which I felt in the life giving blood! Of my Savior possessed, I was perfectly blest, Overwhelmed with the fulness of God. 8. What a mercy is this! What a heaven of bliss! How unspeakably favored am I! Gathered into the fold, With believers enrolled, With believers to live and to die! 9. Now my remnant of days Would I spend to his praise, Who hath died my poor soul to redeem. Whether many or few, All my years are his due; May they all be devoted to him. The White PIlgrim

Author: John P. Ellis Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #8879 Meter: 6.6.9.6.6.9 First Line: I came to the spot where Lyrics: 1 I came to the spot where The white pilgrim lay, And pensively stood by the tomb; When in a low whisper I heard something say: "How sweetly I sleep here alone." 2 "The tempest may howl, and The wild thunders roll, And gathering storms may arise; Yet calm are my feelings, At peace is my soul, The tears are all wiped from my eyes. 3 "Go tell all the friends that To me were so dear, To weep not for one that is gone. The hand that once led me Through scenes dark and drear, Has sweetly conducted me home. 4 "The cause of my Master Propelled me from home, I bade my companion farewell; I left my sweet children, Who for me now mourn, In far distant regions to dwell. 5 "I wandered an exile And stranger below, To publish salvation abroad, The trump of the Gospel Endeavored to blow, Inviting poor sinners to God. 6 "But when among strangers, And far from my home No kindred or relative nigh, I met the contagion And sunk in the tomb, My spirit to mansions on high. His Widow: 7 I called at the house of The mourner below, I entered the mansion of grief; The tears of deep sorrow Most freely did flow— I tried, but could give no relief. 8 There sat a lone widow, Dejected and sad, By troubles and sorrow oppressed; And here were the children In mourning arrayed, And sighs were escaping each breast. 9 I spoke to the widow Concerning her grief, I asked her the cause of her woe; And why there was nothing To give her relief, Or soothe her deep sorrow below. 10 She looked at her children, Then looked upon me, That look I can never forget, More eloquent far than A seraph can be, It spoke of the trials she met. 11 "The hand of affliction Falls heavily now; I’m left with my children to mourn; The friend of my youth now Lies silent and low, In yonder cold graveyard alone! 12 "But why should I mourn, or Feel bound to complain, Or think that my fortune is hard? I met with affliction— ’Tis truly his gain— He’s entered the joy of his Lord! 13 "His work is completed, And finished below; His last tear is fallen, I trust; He preached his last sermon And met his last foe; Has conquered, and now is at rest!" Come, Let Us Ascend

Author: Charles Wesley Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #12714 Meter: 6.6.9.6.6.9 First Line: Come let us ascend Lyrics: 1 Come let us ascend, My companion and friend, To a taste of the banquet above: If thy heart be as mine, If for Jesus it pine, Come up into the chariot of love. 2 Who in Jesus confide, They are bold to out-ride The storms of affliction beneath, With the prophet we soar To that heavenly shore, And outfly all the arrows of death. 3 By faith we are come To our permanent home: By hope we the rapture improve: By love we still rise, And look down on the skies, For the heaven of heavens is love. 4 Who on earth can conceive How happy we live In the city of God, the great King! What a concert of praise When our Jesus’s grace, The whole heavenly company sing? 5 What a rapturous song When the glorified throng In the spirit of harmony join! Join all the glad choirs, Hearts, voices and lyres, And the burden is mercy divine! 6 "Hallelujah" they cry To the King of the sky, To the great everlasting I AM; To the Lamb who was slain, And liveth again, Hallelujah to God and the Lamb! 7 The Lamb on the throne, Lo! He dwells with His own, And to rivers of pleasure He leads, With His mercy’s full blaze, With the sight of His face, Our beatified spirits He feeds. 8 Our foreheads proclaim His ineffable name, Our bodies His glory display: A day without night We feast in His sight, And eternity seems as a day! Come away to the skies

Author: Charles Wesley, 1707-1788 Hymnal: The Hymnal 1982 #213 (1985) Meter: 6.6.9.6.6.9 Lyrics: 1. Come away to the skies, my beloved, arise and rejoice in the day thou wast born; on this festival day, come exulting away, and with singing to Zion return. 2. Now with singing and praise, let us spend all the days, by our heavenly Father bestowed, while his grace we receive from his bounty, and live to the honor and glory of God. 3. For the glory we were first created to share, both the nature and kingdom divine! Now created again that our lives may remain, throughout time and eternity thine. 4 We with thanks do approve the design of that love which hath joined us to Jesus' Name; so united in heart, let us nevermore part, till we meet at the feast of the Lamb. 5 Hallelujah we sing, to our Father and King, and his rapturous praises, repeat: to the Lamb that was slain, hallelujah again, sing, all heaven, and fall at his feet.
