A Present Help

Author: Ella E. Miles Hymnal: The Golden Sheaf #67 (1902) First Line: A present help--When lowering clouds grow dark Lyrics: 1 A present help--When lowering clouds grow dark, Nor light shines thro' our onward way to mark. One vision of "beyond" then let us see. One vision of "beyond" then let us see, While we remember thou wilt ever be A present help, A present help. 2 A present help--Toss'd by each billowy wave, From rocks and shoals thou, Lord, alone canst save: Guide thou us safely on life's fitful sea. Guide thou us safely on life's fitful sea, Be thou our Pilot, may we see in thee A present help, A present help. 3 A present help--Tho' friends I love forsake, And from my side all earthly aid would take; In this dark hour, dear Lord, draw near to me, In this dark hour, dear Lord, draw near to me, And be to me as to thine arms I flee A present help, A present help. 4 A present help--In each sad, trying hour No need of ours can e'er exceed thy power; From tempter's snares, from dangers thou wilt free, From tempter's snares, from dangers thou wilt free, And prove till time ends in eternity, A present help, A present help.
