Author: Henry A. Smith Hymnal: Joy to the World #9 (1879) First Line: "As white as snow!" Oh can it be Refrain First Line: White as snow, white as snow Lyrics: 1 "As white as snow!" Oh can it be, That these sweet words were meant for me. Ah, what a rapture 'tis to know, That I may be "as white as snow." Refrain: White as snow, white as snow, That I may be as white as snow. 2 Long time I wandered from my God, In paths by none but sinners trod; But Jesus sought me there, and oh, His robes were all "as white as snow." [Refrain] 3 He called to me; in vain I sought To turn from him in act or thought; My soul was sick of sin and woe, And longed to be "as white as snow." [Refrain] 4 I followed him he leads me on, The pearly gates are almost won, Afar the heavenly mansions glow, Where I shall dwell, "as white as snow." [Refrain] 5 "As white as snow," was meant for thee, And all who will from sin be free; The rich, the poor, the high, the low, Thro' faith may be "as white as snow." [Refrain] Scripture: Isaiah 1:18 Languages: English Tune Title: ["As white as snow!" Oh can it be]

C. C. Case

1843 - 1918 Composer of "[As white as snow! oh can it be]" in Wondrous Love Charles Clinton Case USA 1843-1918. Born in Linesville, PA, his family moved to Gustavus, OH, when he was four. His father was an accomplished violinist, but a neighbor gave him a small violin when he was nine, and he mastered it before he could read music. At age 16 he went to singing school (without parental consent), borrowing the money from a neighbor. C. A. Bentley, a prominent conductor, was his first vocal music instructor, and William Bradbury's “Jubilee” was the school textbook. For three winters in a row, he attended Bentley's singing school, working his father's farm in the summer. He married Annie Williams. In 1866 he studied music in Boston with B. F. Baker. He also studied under George Root, Horatio Palmer, Philip Bliss, George Webb, and others, hymnwriters in their own right. Soon after, Case began teaching music, and when James McGranahan moved two miles from his home, they became friends. Case wrote and edited a number of Gospel song books in his life. 6 works.
