1 Christians, who of Jesus' sorrows
Come the doleful tale to hear;
See what streams of blood flow for us!
Blend, ah! blend at least a tear.
Chorus:
Lo! for your own sins devoted,
Bleeds the Victim from on high,
By His suff'rings animated,
For Him live and for Him die.
2 See! now Jesus is forsaken;
Round Him press a ruthless band;
See! His heav'nly cheeks are smitten,
By the cruel soldier's hand,
Chorus:
Now behold the Man of Sorrows,
On the cross exalted high,
Suff'ring, bleeding, dying for us,
Now behold salvation nigh.
