The Shadow of the Cross

God forbid that I should glory In the work of human hands

Author: Mrs. L. M. Beal Bateman
Tune: [God forbid that I should glory]
Published in 2 hymnals

Audio files: MIDI

Representative Text

1 God forbid that I should glory
In the work of human hands,
I will only trust the shadow
Where the Cross of Jesus stands.

Chorus:
In the shadow of the cross,
In the shadow of the cross,
I will only trust for shelter,
In the shadow of the cross.

2 In a thirsty land and weary
Stands a Great Rock, firm, secure,
From its shadow flows a fountain
Full of healing waters pure. [Chorus]

3 All for me that Rock was broken,
All for me its waters flowed,
All for me the cross was lifted,
All for me Christ shed His blood. [Chorus]
