Representative Text

1 Who can wash a sinner’s guilt away?
There is no one like the Savior, hallelujah!
Who can turn his darkness into day?
There is no one like the Savior, hallelujah!

Refrain:
O glory, glory, hallelujah!
There is no one like the Savior, hallelujah!
While we live or die, in the earth or sky,
There is no one like the Savior, hallelujah.

2 When we’re lowly bent with grief and care,
There is no one like the Savior, hallelujah!
He speaks, and the sunbeams linger there,
There is no one like the Savior, hallelujah! [Refrain]

3 When we’re tempest tossed upon life’s deep,
There is no one like the Savior, hallelujah!
He speaks, and the wild waves hush to sleep,
There is no one like the Savior, hallelujah! [Refrain]

4 When we feel the icy touch of death,
There is no one like the Savior, hallelujah!
He will take us at our closing breath,
There is no one like the Savior, hallelujah! [Refrain]

5 In that blessèd home where rests the soul,
There is no one like the Savior, hallelujah!
This shall be our song while ages roll,
There is no one like the Savior, hallelujah! [Refrain]

Johnson Oatman, Jr., son of Johnson and Rachel Ann Oatman, was born near Medford, N. J., April 21, 1856. His father was an excellent singer, and it always delighted the son to sit by his side and hear him sing the songs of the church. Outside of the usual time spent in the public schools, Mr. Oatman received his education at Herbert's Academy, Princetown, N. J., and the New Jersey Collegiate Institute, Bordentown, N. J. At the age of nineteen he joined the M.E. Church, and a few years later he was granted a license to preach the Gospel, and still later he was regularly ordained by Bishop Merrill. However, Mr. Oatman only serves as a local preacher. For many years he was engaged with his father in the mercantile business at Lumberton… Go to person page >
