I cannot tell

Author: William Young Fullerton, 1857-1932 Meter: 11.10.11.10.11.10.11.12 Appears in 34 hymnals Topics: Hope and Consolation First Line: I cannot tell how he whom angels worship Lyrics: 1 I cannot tell how he whom angels worship should stoop to love the peoples of the earth, or why as shepherd he should seek the wand'rer with his mysterious promise of new birth. But this I know, that he was born of Mary when Bethl'em's manger was his only home, and that he lived at Nazareth and laboured, and so the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is come. 2 I cannot tell how silently he suffered, as with his peace he graced this place of tears, or how his heart upon the cross was broken, the crown of pain to three and thirty years. But this I know, he heals the broken-hearted, and stays our sin, and calms our lurking fear, and lifts the burden from the heavy laden, for still the Saviour, Saviour of the world is here. 3 I cannot tell how he will win the nations, how he will claim his earthly heritage, how satisfy the needs and aspirations of east and west, of sinner and of sage. But this I know, all flesh shall see his glory, and he shall reap the harvest he has sown, and some glad day his sun will shine in splendour when he the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is known. 4 I cannot tell how all the lands shall worship, when, at his bidding, ev'ry storm is stilled, or who can say how great the jubilation when ev'ry heart with perfect love is filled. But this I know, the skies will thrill with rapture, and myriad, myriad human voices sing, and earth to heav'n and heav'n to earth, will answer: 'At last the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is King!' Scripture: Isaiah 40:5 Used With Tune: LONDONDERRY AIR

Meter: Irregular Appears in 1,211 hymnals Topics: The resurrection of Christ a source of Consolation Lyrics: 1 Christ the Lord is ris'n to-day, Sons of men and angels say. Raise your joys and triumphs high; Sing, ye heav'ns, and earth reply. 2 Love's redeeming work is done; Fought the fight, the battle won. Lo! our sun's eclipse is o'er, Lo! he sets in blood no more. 3 Vain the stone, the watch, the seal! Christ has burst the gates of hell. Death in vain forbids his rise; Christ has open'd Paradise. 4 Lives again our glorious King: Where, O death, is now thy sting? Dying once, he all doth save: Where thy victory, O grave?

What our Father does is well

Author: Henry W. Baker; Benjamin Schmolk Appears in 55 hymnals Topics: Consolation Lyrics: 1 What our Father does is well: Blessed truth His children tell! Though He send for plenty, want, Though the harvest store be scant, Yet we rest upon His love, Seeking better things above. 2 What our Father does is well; Shall the wilful heart rebel? If a blessing He withhold In the field, or in the fold, Is He not Himself to be All our store eternally? 3 What our Father does is well; May the thought within us dwell; Though nor milk nor honey flow In our barren Canaan now, God can save us in our need, God can bless us, God can feed. 4 Therefore unto Him we raise Hymns of glory, songs of praise; To the Father, and the Son, And the Spirit, Three in One, Honor, might, and glory be, Now, and through eternity! Amen. Used With Tune: KÜCKEN
