And watch and pray and wait;
For soon the life-crown I shall wear
Beyond the pearly gate.

Beyond the beautiful gate above,
How happy I shall be;
At rest with Jesus and those I love,
For all eternity.

2 In vain the storms of life will sweep
Upon my trusting soul,
For I am sure the Lord will keep
And safely guide thru all. [Refrain]

3 For me my friends in glory wait,
And soon I’ll cease to roam,
And meet them at the pearly gate
Of my eternal home. [Refrain]

4 My soul is resting in His love,
And He will lead me right,
Till I am safe with Him above,

Pseudonym: James S. Apple. James Rowe was born in England in 1865. He served four years in the Government Survey Office, Dublin Ireland as a young man. He came to America in 1890 where he worked for ten years for the New York Central & Hudson R.R. Co., then served for twelve years as superintendent of the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society. He began writing songs and hymns about 1896 and was a prolific writer of gospel verse with more than 9,000 published hymns, poems, recitations, and other works.
