John R. Clements

1868 - 1946 Author of "Going Home" in Songs of Redemption and Praise. Rev. John R. Clements was born in County Armagh, Ireland 28 November 1868 and was brought to the United States at the age of two years. He worked at the age of thirteen as a retail grocery clerk and had a successful wholesale grocery business. He began writing poetry when he was young. Dianne Shapiro, from "The Singers and Their Songs: sketches of living gospel hymn writers" by Charles Hutchinson Gabriel (Chicago: The Rodeheaver Company, 1916)

Benjamin Franklin Butts

1866 - 1935 Person Name: B. Frank Butts Composer of "[The day is done, its tasks are o'er]" in Songs of Redemption and Praise. Rev. Born: September 7, 1867, Ohio. Died: May 25, 1935, Las Cruces, New Mexico. Buried: Home of Peace Cemetery, Porterville, California. Son of Samuel F. Butts & Hannah Colton, Benjamin studied music at a young age. He started in business in Kansas City, but entered the evangelism field in 1888. He married three times: To Eva Grace Lambright (1867-1941), Mary Emma Rawlings (1869-1919), and Onna Barrett Mills (1896-1963).
