Mary A. Lathbury
1841 - 1913 Author of "Awake and Sing" in Gems of Song Lathbury, Mary Ann, was born in Manchester, Ontario County, New York, Aug. 10, 1841. Miss Lathbury writes somewhat extensively for the American religious periodical press, and is well and favourably known (see the Century Magazine, Jan., 1885, p. 342). Of her hymns which have come into common use we have:—
1. Break Thou the bread of life. Communion with God. A "Study Song" for the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle, written in the summer of 1880. It is in Horder's (Eng.) Congregational Hymns, 1884.
2. Day is dying in the west. Evening. "Written at the request of the Rev. John H. Vincent, D.D., in the summer of 1880. It was a "Vesper Song," and has been frequently used in the responsive services of the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle." It is in the Laudes Domini, N. Y., 1884.

1782 - 1818 Person Name: John Thomson Author of "Jehovah, God, Thy Gracious Power" in Church Hymnal, Mennonite Thomson, John, M.D., 1783-1818. A Leeds physician, who contributed to Aspland's Collection, 1310:—
1. To God, the universal King. To the One God.
2. Jehovah, God ! thy gracious power. Omnipresence of God.
3. To thee my heart, eternal King. Praise.

Maro Loomis Bartlett
1847 - 1919 Person Name: Maro L. Bartlett Composer of "TEMPLE" in Church Hymnal, Mennonite Bartlett was born on October 25, 1847 in Browhelm, Ohio. He was a choral conductor, composed many popular tunes, and wrote several books on music. As of 1905, he was Director of the Des Moines, Iowa, College of Music. He died in 1919 in Des Moines, Iowa.

The publication Bartlett's Music Reader (1901) states that the editor, M.L. Bartlett, was "President of the Des Moines, Ia., Music College and formerly Teacher of Music in the Schools of New York City." This same M.L. Bartlett edited The Sunday School Serial.

1856 - 1904 Author of "Jehovah, God, Who Dwelt of Old" in The Cyber Hymnal Amis, Lewis R., born in 1856, and died in 1904, is given in the American Methodist Hymnal, 1905, as the author of "Jehovah God, Who dwelt of old" (Dedication of a Place of Worship).
