Nature with open volume stands

Author: Isaac Watts, 1674-1748 Hymnal: CPAM2000 #113 (2000) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1 Nature with open volume stands to spread her Maker's praise abroad, and every labour of his hands shows something worthy of our God. 2 But in the grace that rescued man his brightest form of glory shines; here on the cross 'tis fairest drawn in precious blood and crimson lines. 3 Here his whole name appears complete; nor wit can guess, nor reason prove which of the letters best is writ, the power, the wisdom, or the love. 4 O the sweet wonders of that cross where God the Saviour loved and died; her noblest life my spirit draws from his dear wounds and bleeding side. 5 I would for ever speak his name in sounds to mortal ears unknown, with angels join to praise the Lamb, and worship at his Father's throne. Topics: Passiontide and Holy Week; Proper 22 Year A Scripture: 1 Peter 1:19 Languages: English Tune Title: NÜRNBERG

Now, my tongue, the mystery telling

Author: St Thomas Aquinas, 1227-1274; J. M. Neale ; Edward Caswall Hymnal: CPAM2000 #316a (2000) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.7 Lyrics: PART ONE - 1 Now, my tongue, the mystery telling of the glorious body sing, and the blood, all price excelling, which the Gentiles' Lord and King, in a Virgin's womb once dwelling, shed for this world's ransoming. 2 Given for us, and condescending to be born for us below, he, with us in converse blending, dwelt the seed of truth to sow, till he closed with wondrous ending his most patient life of woe. 3 That last night, at supper lying, 'mid the Twelve, his chosen band, Jesus, with the law complying, keeps the feast its rites demand; then, more precious food supplying, gives himself with his own hand. 4 Word-made-flesh, true bread he maketh by his word his flesh to be, wine his blood; which whoso taketh must from carnal thoughts be free: faith alone, though sight forsaketh, shows true hearts the mystery. PART TWO - 5 Therefore we, before him bending, this great sacrament revere: types and shadows have their ending, for the newer rite is here; faith, our outward sense befriending, makes our inward vision clear. 6 Glory let us give and blessing to the Father and the Son, honour, might, and praise addressing, while eternal ages run; ever too his love confessing, who, from both, with both is One. Amen. Topics: Holy Communion; Maundy Thursday Scripture: 1 Peter 1:18-19 Languages: English Tune Title: PANGE LINGUA

Name of all majesty

Author: Timothy Dudley-Smith, b. 1926 Hymnal: CPAM2000 #525 (2000) Meter: 6.6.5.5.6.6.6.4 Lyrics: 1 Name of all majesty, fathomless mystery, King of the ages by angels adored; power and authority, splendour and dignity, bow to his mastery, Jesus is Lord! 2 Child of our destiny, God from eternity, love of the Father on sinners outpoured; see now what God has done sending his only Son, Christ the beloved One, Jesus is Lord! 3 Saviour of Calvary, costliest victory, darkness defeated and Eden restored; born as a man to die, nailed to a cross on high, cold in the grave to lie, Jesus is Lord! 4 Source of all sovereignty, light, immortality, life everlasting and heaven assured; so with the ransomed, we praise him eternally, Christ in his majesty, Jesus is Lord! New every morning is the love

Author: John Keble, 1792-1866 Hymnal: CPAM2000 #6a (2000) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1 New every morning is the love our wakening and uprising prove; through sleep and darkness safely brought, restored to life and power and thought. 2 New mercies, each returning day, hover around us while we pray; new perils past, new sins forgiven, new thoughts of God, new hopes of heaven. 3 If on our daily course our mind be set to hallow all we find, new treasures still, of countless price, God will provide for sacrifice. 4 The trivial round, the common task, will furnish all we ought to ask, room to deny ourselves, a road to bring us daily nearer God. 5 Only, O Lord, in thy dear love, fit us for perfect rest above; and help us, this and every day, to live more nearly as we pray. Topics: Morning; Lent II Year B; Lent III Year A Scripture: Hebrews 4:9 Languages: English Tune Title: MELCOMBE
