1845 - 1926 Hymnal Number: 9 Composer of "[Jesus, I will follow thee]" in Gems and Jewels James Holmes Rosecrans stu­died at the Baxter Un­i­ver­si­ty of Mu­sic in Friend­ship, New York. Af­ter teaching for two years, he joined the Fill­more Bro­thers Mu­sic House in Cin­cin­na­ti, Ohio. As of 1880, he was teach­ing mu­sic in Doug­las Coun­ty, Col­o­ra­do. In 1884, was an evan­gel­ist in California, and later was as­so­ci­ated with evan­gel­is­tic efforts in Tex­as, and taught mu­sic and Bi­ble at Carl­ton College in Bon­ham, Tex­as. 1865 - 1951 Hymnal Number: 94 Author of "My Heavenly Friend" in Gems and Jewels Ida Lilliard Reed (Smith), 1865-1951 Born: November 30, 1865, near Ar­den, Bar­bour Coun­ty, West Vir­gin­ia. Died: Ju­ly 8, 1951, Ar­den, West Vir­gin­ia. Buried: Eb­e­nez­er Meth­odi­st Church, Ar­den, West Vir­gin­ia. Reed is said to have writ­ten 2,000 hymns in her life­time. In 1939, the Amer­i­can So­ci­e­ty of Com­pos­ers, Au­thors and Pub­lish­ers re­cog­nized her "sub­stan­tial con­tri­bu­tion to Amer­i­can mu­sic" by award­ing her a small "week­ly bo­nus." © The Cyber Hymnal™ (www.hymntime.com/tch)
