Jesus, Lead Thou On

Author: Nicholaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf, 1700-60; Jane L. Borthwick, 1813-97 Hymnal: Lutheran Service Book #718 (2006) Meter: 5.5.8.8.5.5 Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:13 Lyrics: 1 Jesus, lead Thou on Till our rest is won; And although the way be cheerless, We will follow calm and fearless. Guide us by Thy hand To our fatherland. 2 If the way be drear, If the foe be near, Let not faithless fears o'ertake us; Let not faith and hope forsake us; For through many a woe To our home we go. 3 When we seek relief From a long-felt grief, When temptations come alluring, Make us patient and enduring. Show us that bright shore Where we weep no more. 4 Jesus, lead Thou on Till our rest is won. Heav'nly leader, still direct us, Still support, console, protect us, Till we safely stand In our fatherland. Languages: English Tune Title: SEELENBRÄUTIGAM

Jesus invites his saints

Author: Isaac Watts, 1674-1748 Hymnal: Together in Song #505 (1999) Meter: 6.6.8.6 Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 Lyrics: 1 Jesus invites his saints to meet around his board; here pardoned rebels sit, and hold communion with their Lord. 2 For food he gives his flesh, calls us to drink his blood; amazing favour, matchless grace of our descending God! 3 Our heavenly father calls Christ and his members one: we the young children of his love, and he the first-born Son. 4 We are but several parts of the same broken bread; our body hath its several limbs, but Jesus is the head. 5 Let all our powers be joined his glorious name to raise; pleasure and love fill every mind and every voice be praise. Jesus, Grant That Balm and Healing

Author: Johann Heermann, 1585-1647 Hymnal: Christian Worship #404 (2021) Meter: 8.7.8.7.7.7.8.8 Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:13 Lyrics: 1 Jesus, grant that balm and healing in your holy wounds I find, ev'ry hour that I am feeling pains of body and of mind. Should some evil thought within tempt my treach'rous heart to sin, show the peril, and from sinning keep me from its first beginning. 2 Should some lust or sharp temptation fascinate my sinful mind, let me think about your passion, and new courage I shall find. Or should Satan press me hard, let me then be on my guard, saying, "Christ for me was wounded," that the tempter flee confounded. 3 If the world my heart entices with the broad and easy road, with seductive, sinful vices, let me weigh the awful load you were willing to endure. Help me flee all thoughts impure, master each wild temptation, calm in prayer and meditation. 4 Ev'ry wound that pains or grieves me by your wounds, Lord, is made whole; when I'm weak, your cross revives me, granting new life to my soul. Yes, your comfort renders sweet ev'ry bitter cup I meet; for your all-atoning passion has procured my soul's salvation. 5 O my God, my rock and tower, grant that in your death I trust, knowing death has lost its power since you crushed it in the dust. Savior, let your agony ever help and comfort me; when I die be my protection, light and life and resurrection. Topics: Lent Languages: English Tune Title: DER AM KREUZ
