Come, Ye Thankful People, Come

Author: Henry Alford Meter: 7.7.7.7 D Appears in 727 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 126:6 First Line: Come, ye thankful people come Lyrics: 1 Come, ye thankful people, come; raise the song of harvest home. All is safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin. God, our Maker, doth provide for our wants to be supplied. Come to God's own temple, come; raise the song of harvest home. 2 All the world is God's own field, fruit in thankful praise to yield, wheat and tares together sown, unto joy or sorrow grown. First the blade, and then the ear, then the full corn shall appear. Lord of harvest, grant that we wholesome grain and pure may be. 3 For the Lord our God shall come, and shall take the harvest home; from each field shall in that day all offenses purge away; give the angels charge at last in the fire the tares to cast, but the fruitful ears to store in God's garner evermore. 4 Even so, Lord, quickly come to thy final harvest home. Gather thou thy people in, free from sorrow, free from sin, there forever purified, in thy presence to abide: come, with all thine angels, come; raise the glorious harvest home! Come, ye faithful, raise the strain

Author: St John of Damascus, d. c.754; John Mason Neale, 1818-1866 Meter: 7.6.7.6.7.6.7.6 Appears in 380 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 126:6 Lyrics: 1 Come, you faithful, raise the strain of triumphant gladness; God hath brought his Israel into joy from sadness; loosed from Pharaoh’s bitter yoke Jacob’s sons and daughters; led them with unmoistened foot through the Red Sea waters. 2 ’Tis the spring of souls today: Christ has burst his prison, and from three days’ sleep in death as a sun has risen. All the winter of our sins, long and dark, is flying from the Light to whom we give laud and praise undying. 3 Now the queen of seasons, bright with the day of splendour, with the royal feast of easts, comes it joy to render; come to glad Jerusalem, who with true affection welcomes in unwearied strains Jesu's resurrection. 4 Alleluia now we cry to our King immortal, who triumphant burst the bars of the tomb’s dark portal; Alleluia, with the Son, God the Father praising; Alleluia yet again to the Spirit raising. Come Away to the Skies

Meter: 6.6.9 D Appears in 173 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 126 Lyrics: 1 Come away to the skies, my beloved, arise and rejoice in the day thou wast born. On this festival day, come exulting away, and with singing to Zion return. 2 Now with singing and praise, let us spend all the days, by our heavenly Father bestowed, while his grace we receive from his bounty, and live to the honour and glory of God. 3 For the glory we were first created to share, both the nature and kingdom divine! Now created again that our lives may remain, throughout time and eternity thine. 4 We with thanks do approve the design of that love which hath joined us to Jesus' name; so united in heart, let us nevermore part, till we meet at the feast of the Lamb. 5 Hallelujah we sing, to the heaven's high King, and his rapturous praises repeat: to the Lamb that was slain, hallelujah again, sing, all heaven, and fall at his feet.
